Iron Fist

EXCLUSIVE: Marvel Studios is moving forward on a live action feature version of Iron Fist, hiring screenwriter Rich Wilkes to draft a movie based on a martial arts expert whose battle with a dragon--ended when he plunged his hands through the beast's molten heart--turned his fists into indestructible weapons.

Iron Fist was on the minds of many fanboys when Disney paid $4 billion for Marvel's 5000 superhero library and vowed to turn the less obvious comic book heroes into films and TV properties. Marvel tried to make an Iron Fist movie with Artisan nearly a decade ago, as a vehicle for X-Men villain and martial arts expert Ray Park. The Iron Fist comic book mythology was created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane in the 1970s, when the popularity of martial arts films was on the rise.

I wonder when we'll start seeing the "Disney" or "Touchtone" logo with Marvel films? Or maybe we never will, it will just be the Marvel logo?

Marvel doesn't distribute films. All current franchises are settled at other studios. On a new franchise, Disney will be the no-brainer choice to distribute. At which time, we should see a Touchstone logo, assuming Disney hasn't abandoned Touchstone outright. From the sounds of it, we'll see Touchstone on live-action DreamWorks movies and that's about it. Besides Kristen Bell romantic comedies and serious Miley Cyrus films, I guess.

Marvel doesn't distribute films yet. My wondering is, Marvel would mostly likely be creating mostly "PG-13" films with maybe a few "R" rated ones. I'm juts wondering how Disney plains on dealing with that?

I have a feeling that Marvel will continue to make movies with other studios mostly, and only do some exclusive stuff with Disney.

But I mean what studio logo will play with the new Marvel films? Will it be Disney or not? They are not going to keep distributing the Marvel Studio films with Paramount and Universal forever.

Another thought I had, what do people here think the likely hood is of Marvel doing Disney comics ultimately? DC makes Bugs Bunny and Scoody Doo comics, could Marvel end up making Mickey Mouse or Toy Story comics?

maybe. I coujld definitely see some potential. For toy story, that is.

That should begin with Runaways (based on the Marvel series) the movie is currently in production right now :)

At this stage it looks as if it will be a Walt Disney pictures release...having said that -it will depend on content of course and we could see it as a touchstone...but for all intents and purposes Runaways will be a Disney release...It will begin filming in January. Casting calls were held only several weeks ago.

Interesting. I have heard about them working on this film for a while. I guess maybe the Marvel films may get BOTH logos depending on content?

Re Runaways

Update ; Honor, over at Blue Sky Disney, suggests that Runaways may actually fall under the Paramount distribution deal instead of the mouse and he gives some valid reasoning as to why this may be...
I guess we will have to wait and see. It may be some time before we actually find out for sure... Well that leaves Dr Strange and or maybe Antman to be released under Disney.
