Drag Me to Hell - I thought it would be a lot better than it was. Alison Lohman and Justin Long were great, but IDK it wasn't as campy as I thought it was going to be. There was little to no blood or gore, and the old lady was disgusting. Also the goat scene was very random and wtf-esque.

Master of Horror: Dario Argento: Jenifer - Holy shit. This was probably the most disgusting movie I've ever seen. Jenifer is sick yet the actress has a way to make you almost feel sorry for her, which makes everything she does even more sick. Ugh. It wasn't really scary, per say, just gross and weird. This is my first Argento film, but I plan on watching Suspiria with a group of friends this weekend. Hopefully it's not really anything like this.

No, his older movies (especially 1975-1987) are marked by an incredible use of style. Amazing camerawork, eye-popping colors, breath-taking scenery... and sensationalistic, over-the-top murders. Usually committed by a killer wearing black gloves (though not in Suspiria or Inferno) (which is the director in a cameo, every time- just the closeups of the hands wearing black gloves).

Good luck with the Suspiria party. Make sure the lights are off and the volume is up as loud as you can get it. Be prepared for a potentially negative reaction to the English dubbing. It's very obvious.

Masters of Horror: Lucky McKee's Sick Girl - Probably my second favorite so far, Sick Girl was a campy spin on the otherwise pretty twisted series. I'm not really into insects, so I didn't know how that would be, but it isn't really the main plot - the relationship between the two women was. I don't think I've seen Angela Bettis in anything else besides Carrie a while back, but I loved her her. I also liked Erin Brown, who I guess used to be a porn star? The film was hilarious, cheesy (in the good way), and entertaining. Glad I watched.

Last night I saw Eat Pray Love. I think that it is singlehandedly the most inspirational film I've ever seen. It really, really resonated with me and where I am in life. The only thing I knew about it going in was that it starred Julia Roberts, that she's sitting on a bench eating ice cream on the poster, and that it was based on a true story/book. I hadn't even seen the trailer, but my friend and some of her friends were seeing it and I was invited. Wow, I'm so glad that she did invite me. A++++ I bought the book on my way home, and I can't wait to delve right into it.

You should be- it's gotten a VERY good DVD presentation. THX, just like Disney's big releases from- like (well into the mid-90's on VHS, but also) 1999 to 2005 early. And every major review praised the picture quality and sound. I hope you've got a big TV or some kind of surround. (I still have a normal-sized TV, although it's kinda big, but I've a bass speaker and my 2 like-computer left-and-right's at opposite ends of the room.

I think my favorite is either Cigarette Burns or Sick Girl. If you haven't seen Cigarette Burns yet, I seriously recommend that be your next one.

King Kong (2005) as a free rental from Vudu through my Blu-ray player. First time I'd seen it since going to the theatre on opening weekend. Drawn out and over-the-top, as I remember it. But the sound was great through my new 5.1 surround sound set-up.

Famously, in 1989's black comedy classic Heathers, Red Queen herself Heather #1 (aka- Heather Chandler, or actress Kim Walker) began to say, "if you're going to openly be a bitch..." (she was cut off by Winona Ryder) in her teachings to new-girl-on-the-chopping-block Veronica Sawyer. Well, she probably would have included somewhere in her lost mouthful- know what you're doing. Otherwise, you can't be clever or cutting. This movie has no clue what it's doing, that's for sure. It's basically the Legally Blonde of bitch flicks. The worst bitch in the movie is nothing more than a tarty blonde. And the movie has no idea what to make of their wannabe bitch (obviously played by Hewitt above), Katya Livingston. Is she a rich-girl (did she come from money)? Is she a socialite? Is she a young, cutthroat business woman? At least we knew who Elle Woods was. But if it's part of the plot here that we're not supposed to know what makes Who-Who, than that is the only clever thing about this ultra-light little snore of a movie. The acting is TV-quality, the style and pacing are TV-speedy, and there's about as much accuracy here as there is inside Pamela Anderson's tits. Jennifer Love Hewitt can't do bad-girl, which is basically what she's supposed to be (and really, this is like a bad screen-test for her practically unseen role as The Devil in the production-savaged remake of The Devil and Daniel Webster). I imagine this is better than Bratz, which I haven't seen. But that would have been (minus the silly "z") a better title for this thing. Since the multiple-personalitied "Katya" is not even tough enough to pass as Nicky Hilton's childhood friend. Then, it tries to switch over into romantic comedy (best thing about it, bar none, is hunky Colin Ferguson- who proved he's an underrated actor in the Fear Itself episode, "Family Man"). Phony! The movie's big star cameo, by the way... is Melissa Rivers. Need I say more? Skip it and see Party Girl instead. Vastly superior! (And it's got Parker Posey!!)

I have an HD-TV and a Blu-Ray player, so I assume it will go well.

I may have had to watch it in two days, but I watched Seven Samurai (1954) both Wednesday night and Thursday (since the film was divided into two parts on the Criterion Collection).

It may have been slow in some parts, but I actually thought it was kind of interesting.

The Odd Couple - Very funny movie! I did notice that The Suite Life of Zack and Cody definitely ripped off one of the scenes as a plot for an episode. I LOL'ed a lot throughout it. I like how they are both changed for the better thanks to their experience as roomates. An enjoyabe film. Fmeh! Fmeh! Fmeeeehhh!

Last night I watched...

Date Night (2010) 7/10 - entertaining movie. The story is really cliched and predictable. You know exactly where it's going from the start with the in-you-face setup but the two charismatic leads save the movie from being boring. Both Steve Carell and Tina Fey (great chemistry) show off their excellent improve and provide plenty of laughs. Actually, it was probably even funnier for me than most as they acted exactly as my parents do (just slightly more lame). I also love the quick cameos from some of my favorites: Mark Wahlberg, William Fichtner, Kristen Wiig, Mark Ruffalo, Ray Liotta, James Franco and Mila Kunis; holy poop that made me happy. It was defiantely entertaining.

Superman: The Movie (1978) - I may have skimmed through a couple scenes a bit, but that doesn't mean it was very boring. It was pretty entertaining, in fact. I do think they spent a little too much time focusing on Superman's past and the ending was a bit dumb. Those are my only complaints.

Martyrs - A French horror film that was made out to be one of the goriest films ever made. It wasn't as gory as I thought it was going to be, but it was still a really great movie. I recommend it to everyone, albeit disturbing to watch.

Zombieland - This was really fun to watch. I love Emma Stone so I was glad to see her in the main cast, and Bill Murray is always great.

JFK (1991)

Second viewing. If anybody could just see *one* movie, I wish they'd watch this one. (I knew I've said that before, but still...) This is really a testament to the power of the medium film, and the ultimate proof of Oliver Stone's skills as a director. Visually rich, extraordinary performances, and a shitload of information which makes you dizzy but which is presented in such a way that it never bores you; after three and a half hours, you'll be surprised that the film is over 'already'.

I've done a lot of reading and studying on the assassination of president Kennedy for years, and I can say, with this film, Stone didn't put together some crackpot conspiracy theories. Stone did his homework and he did it well. I support his main conclusion about high-level government involvement in the murder of a person who could have become the greatest president of the 20th century. And I'm no crackpot.

For those of you who don't want to sit down for three and a half hours to experience one of the best films ever made, below is a recap of the events discussed in the film in 5 minutes.

On Vutopia On Demand I watched a couple of great films today:

The Grifters (1990) - starring John Cusack, Annette Bening, Angelica Huston and J.T. Walsh. Very good movie with a very sudden ending.

Excaliber - (1981) - Liam Neeson and Helen Mirren star in this telling of King Arthur and his magic sword.

Aladdin. A great way to spend my day off!

Finally broke down and watched The Forbidden Kingdom with Jet Li and Jackie Chan.

I had been put off by all the negative criticism of the movie, saying that it was trash and not worth the time it takes to watch it.

Well, I can tell you, I really enjoyed this film. It is definitely not a Oscar-caliber film, but is truly a great "popcorn" flick. Just check your brain at the door before watching and let it entertain you. That's what movies are supposed to do.

Oh, and by the way, Best Buy has this film on Blu-ray on sale for just $7.99.

Watched two Hitchcock films the past two days:

Rear Window and The Lady Vanishes.

Both films were enjoyable in their own rights. I look forward to collecting more of Hitchcock's films.
