Lionsgate is releasing Santa Claus The Movie on 25th Anniversary DVD and Blu-Ray! Pretty awesome, but I wish Anchor Bay would be the one to release it. Anyway, Digitalbits has the report:

"Lionsgate has also set both the fantastic Winter's Bone and a Santa Claus: The Movie 25th Anniversary Edition for DVD and Blu-ray release on 10/26."

I haven't bought a new Lionsgate disc since Hard Candy about... 3 years ago. I'm going to get that dang Wraith disc in a few months. But, are they still an utter nightmare with ads and logos that you can't skip through with the chapter buttons?
I've also been avoiding newer Anchor Bay discs. So, I don't know if they've changed. But I certainly am not a big fan of their policy with giving discs fewer chapters. Last I bought from them, they were doing 12 chapters a movie. I know Lionsgate can beat that.

I have fond memories of this movie growing up. I watched it again fairly recently on AMC and thought the first half of the film held up really well and offered a unique take on the legend of Santa. The second half that takes place in (then) modern times, however, was rather painful and can't compare. I may pick this up for nostalgic purposes (and for the very good first half) if I find it cheap. This has always been a rather fuzzy and murky movie visually, so I wonder how the Blu-ray will look.

I don't remember the movie at all. Just the tiniest pieces of it.
But that McDonalds scene pops up the most. I remember it as being very disturbing.

Luke, please review this disc.
No risk of "trashy Quentin Tarantino styled violence" in this one.

I don't know -- I hear things get pretty wild in the deleted scenes.

This is an all-time fave of mine! I can't wait! I still have that first DVD release. It's one of the best movies ever to watch on Christmas Eve before bedtime!

This is a favorite of mine at Christmastime too... I bought the first DVD release and held off on upgrading when it was reissued. Not that it ever had a high price tag, but I'm glad I did. Can't wait to pick it up on Blu-ray (assuming that it holds up under critical review).
