What??? No Muppet Show release this year?! That is just plain ridiculous. Season 3 was released almost a year ago and I bet the material has been ready to be put on DVDs for some time.
It is really sad to see how badly Disney treats the Muppets franchise, poor Jim Henson.

That kind of sucks that we have to wait a whole year to get another season of The Muppet Show on DVD. I think we can blame poor sales for this.

I suspect is more to do with clearance issues than sales.

Well, the good thing is that they are coming. The delay doesn't affect me too badly, I still need to catch up and get seasons 2 and 3.

Hm. Good point. They could be waiting it to use it as a promotional thing in hope that the movies boosts sales of Season 4.
Which, btw, I'm guessing it's Gonzo's turn to be on the cover, no?
Then possibly Animal for season 5, or some sort of group shot?

Well, wasn't there five seasons? You'd expect them to release the final season (and perhaps a complete boxset of all 5?) if they wanted something to cross-promote with the film.

I think Netty is right that it has something to do with obtaining the rights to release the complete season. It's not that Disney is trying to be rude to the Muppet fans. Its quite the opposite. There was a huge gap between the DVD releases of the first and second season because they were waiting until they could get all of the music rights so they didn't have to edit anything out.
Personally, I'm really grateful for Disney's attention to detail with these season sets. I don't think its being held for a promotional tie-in with the next, film, although it certainly could be used as one now. There were 5 season of the show plus two seasons of Muppets Tonight that could be used, as well as maybe better restored releases of the other Muppet movies.

Eh, an extra year isn't too bad. It's better than the five-year wait between season releases for "Everwood" (Season 1 in 2004, Season 2 this June), or the still-waiting period for various shows that studios have giving one or two DVD releases, then just stopped because of sales ("St. Elsewhere" and "Hill Street Blues", for example) or because of music rights ("American Dreams"). I'm just glad it's coming at all and that Disney's making sure there's no more edits like the first season.

I've had the same ideas for the cover art for seasons 4 and 5
It's possible though, Disney may throw a curve ball and may have Rowlf on one of those sets.

I wish Rowlf would get that kind of respect!
And, man, I'm dying to finally get that Star Wars episode! So far though, I only have season 1. Too pricey. But I'll get the others as soon as I can.

I agree it would be neat to get Gonzo on 4 and Animal on 5. Beyond that, I believe there were 2 seasons of Muppets Tonight and I would imagine that Disney will release that when they are done with The Muppet Show. My hope is that they will continue the trend with Pepe the Prawn, who has become very popular and premiered on that show, and Beeker, my favorite. That's probably just wishful thinking, though.

Well I am glad that unlike the Disney afternoon stuff it has not been abandoned.

For some reason, Pepe always seemed like a "jump the shark" character to me...
I find him rather annoying, hokay, and he comes across as a villian, or at least a self-centered jerk.

Yeah, I'm not a huge Pepe fan.

Yeah, I'm not a huge Pepe fan.
Ditto although he was better than Cliff.

Most definitely.

Perhaps I'm a huge Pepe fan because I was 11 when Muppets Tonight started. I see why a lot of people don't like him and he got on my nerves during Muppets Wizard of Oz... actually, that whole film got on my nerves. But it seems that Muppets fans who are older than me hate Pepe and those my age or younger really like him. He is my third favorite, behind Beeker and the Swedish Chef.
