Looks like kids have found a new way to get high! Weird sounding .mp3s that supposedly have 'drug' like effects!

I listened to a few and they do make my head feel a little loopy.

What do you think? A joke? Or could this become a serious issue?

I've never heard of that before. I don't get it...I mean, I guess I can see how it could make you super-calm, maybe...? I think, though, if the idosing websites are bringing people to real drug sites, then that in itself is a huge problem...but I don't know enough about the idosing itself to make a judgment, but I'm skeptical...

I'm not so sure I buy the fact that mere audio files can make the brain act abnormally, but I know sound waves are used for a lot of weird things, and the i-doses definitely sound different than regular sounds to me.

Also, I found out the way to properly "i-dose" is to listen to one of the files (most are 30 minutes long, some "quick doses" are 10 minutes) through headphones in a completely dark room. It might just be that the increase in imagination through the demonic/otherworldly sound and being in the dark makes the mind unstable or something.

Whatever it is, just from the way my head feels after listening to a few seconds, I'm too scared to experiment around with it.

I actually wanna try this just to see if it works lol. What's the site you go to for it?

It's probably more of the mindset that you think you're getting high... I doubt it actually does much.

And I think there's an actual science to this. The sound files use "Binaural Beats" which according to wiki

I'm with Kyle on this one.

Music can obviously have an effect on us. It's well documented. Dancing makes us feel better, hard music can relieve stress, and this garbage gives me a headache. Rock 'n roll defined a generation not just because of the lyrics. Hip hop became a phenomenon and not just because of cursing and controversy. Disco. Country. Classical. These are much more than sounds. Their feeling does things to people.

So... people have been getting up'd and down'd by this music since music was born.

Sigh... this is just all kinds of stupid. Have these journalists not heard of a simple placebo effect.

I mean, are they really serious? 'Cause this is pretty damn stupid, even for the media - and that's saying something. First of all, you can NOT -- hear that, crazy people/journalists in the video -- NOT get high off of sounds. Furthermore, who authorized this media 'report', what 'expert' said that this is really the case. Did they even investigate something... anything? No? Didn't think so.

I'm guessing that this is either to shock parents and get ratings, or the local townspeople were just really, really bored. Either way, it's ridiculous that these so-called journalists even get the chance to report something like this on tv. Also, isn't it humorous that they want to 'protect the children', yet feel the need to rapport on it on national television. I can only imagine what the thoughts were behind that.

Serious journalism has died a long time ago in the US... and we're (Europe) are not far off...

And this is why I don't bother with the news anymore.

Worse are SENSATIONALISTIC news shows that take even the simplest of accidents and turn it into something far worse than a Greek tragedy!

I HATE Primer Impacto (First Impact) on Latin TV. Seriously, only they could turn the Swine Flu into the Resident Evil Umbrella virus and claim "That all hope for humanity is lost" (I swear to God they actually said that...)

I swear, I was about to throw my tv set out of the window if they didn't stop talking about it on the news like it was some sort of life threatening virus. The vaccine is *probably* twenty times more dangerous anyway, but you won't see that on television.

Needless to say, I don't bother with the news (on television) anymore.

This makes me think of the South Park episode: World Wide Recorder Concert, where a "Brown Noise" could make people... ermm... "fill" their pants.

I agree television is going down the drain, but you can't really blame the reporters for doing a bit on it. A school in Oklahoma sent a warning letter to parents because a bunch of kids started acting strange due to a so-called drug (presumably one student claimed to see 'paint peeling off the walls'). That's a pretty big deal. Why shouldn't an Oklahoma news station do a follow up?

I also don't see why this is any less believable than getting high off smoking a plant. If it was just a weird rave song, maybe I'd be more suspicious, but there is something science-like about the sound waves of an "i-dose" and the two-tone beats going simultaneously in different ears that logically, to me, seems like it could case some kind of increased bodily reaction than normal listening-to-music emotions.

Placebo effect or not, I'm not really worried about it, because even if it is damaging to people at least it's not smelly and at least it won't cause them them to kill people while driving (unless their i-dosing on the road I suppose LOL). Still, saying it's a bunch of poppycock with confidence is a little silly to me, considering what all other random things we scientifically know to make us high.

I know! I went through the swine flu last Halloween(sucks-I have to take care of myself and answer for trick-r-treaters). I ended up with a mild infection that we took care of without need for the vaccine. It was a week or so off of school. that's it. nothing life-threatening.

That's strange... That happened to me when I checked one of those "i-dose" videos. I didn't lay down on my bed in a dark room, as was suggested, but I sat up and closed my eyes and concentrated intensely on the sounds I was hearing. It made me feel a little dizzy in the head and it.. well, like the South Park. episode, it causes a (short) 'sensation'.. Very strange.

I can't say I got 'high'. I didn't notice much. But I said the same thing the first time I smoked pot: I didn't notice anything different, but my friends noticed a lot of things about me, so I guess it worked after all.
