Disney Legend Ilene Woods, who voiced Cinderella in the 1950 classic, has passed away at the age of 81. Woods was born on May 5, 1929 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, U.S.A. and was both a singer and actress.
Woods started acting at two years old. When she was 14, she was given her own radio show on the new station called The Blue Network on ABC Radio during the summer of 1944. A lot of songwriters came on the show to present their music to her, which is how she became friends with Mack David and Jerry Livingston.
David and Livingston asked her to record a few of their most recent written songs for a movie. They also wanted her not just to record them, but to sing them. Soon the songs were presented to Walt Disney so it could be used in the animated Cinderella. She won the role against more than 300 other auditioning girls.

God that's terrible. They say people are living longer these days, but now it seems most celebrities don't make it to see their Bob Hope's (aka- 100th Birthday).

A gasping "Oh My God!" came from my mouth reading this at another site followed by a hand clasp to my mouth.
She had a good life, and it's alright that she's passed on to heaven now, but her Diamond Edition was coming up!
And now I'll never get to talk to her and ask her my own questions about her role as Cinderella.
She was an excellent voice and a perfect choice for Cinderella. She brought a warmth and sweetness to the character that endeared more than many a princess or Disney character for millions.
The Queen Cinderella is gone, now. But, thankfully, Cinderella lives on forever in the movie and as a character that touches a child's deepest, sweetest loving dreams.
"A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes, when you're fast asleep...in dreams you will lose your heartache, whatever you wish for, you keep. Have faith in your dreams, and someday, your rianbow will come smiling through. No matter how your heart is grieving. If you keep on believing, the dream that you wish will come true."
"The key to all Heaven is mine. My heart has wings, mmm, and I can fly. I'll touch every star in the sky. So this is the miracle that I've been dreaming of..."

Couldn't have said it better myself, Duster. My thought exactly.
RIP, Ilene.

I just found out about this and yes, I am very sad. Like it has been established, Cinderella is one of the most fascinating characters out of Disney's first three princesses, and that is thanks to Ilene Woods' great vocal performance. She conveyed warmth, security, hope and happiness despite the situation she was in.
And she was from New Hampshire?? I love Portsmouth, but had no idea Ilene was from there!
RIP Ilene.

I agree with Disney Duster. She was lovely as Cinderella, and she will always be remebered because of that classical film. RIP.

Don't you just hate when you come home from a long day at work and you just get online to check up on what you missed, only to find out sad news? I do.
RIP Ilene.

Ironically, I was watching Rags to Riches: The Making of Cinderella a couple days ago. Still, it's quite sad news to hear. The woman was 81, so I'm sure her life was long, fulfilling, and full of Disney magic.

This is really rather sad.

I'm actually going to Disneyland Paris this week, and I'm sure that if I see Cinderella, or anything related to her, I'll be thinking of Ilene, and the loved ones she left behind.
