The Back To The Future Trilogy is coming to Blu-Ray this October!:

"July 3, 1985 was the premiere of Robert Zemeckis's hugely successful Back to the Future. Today, almost twenty-five years later, Universal Studios Home Entertainment has officially announced the Blu-ray release of Back to the Future: 25th Anniversary Trilogy for October 26, confirming early information from European retailers (see blu-ray.com, June 18 ). This edition will be newly-restored and offer more than two hours of new bonus features.

Video will be 1080p, with an aspect ratio of 1.85:1. Audio will be 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio. The discs will be single-sided BD50s.

Setups & Payoffs: As you watch each of the three films, each "set up" showcases items in the scene that prepare you for a future plot point. When you get to that moment in the film, the "payoff" is shown to complete the correlation.

If you already have the "Back To The Future Trilogy", it is really a waste of money to double-dip for this. It was originally digitally remastered for the standard 'trilogy' release, and as far as I am concerned, it looks just as good as a blu-ray, so I will save my money for something that is not a double-dip from the collection other than Disney animation releases that are coming in the next few years.

I'm guessing that "Tales from the Future" is a replacement for "Looking Back to the Future" from the 2009 DVD (which itself was a re-edit of the 2006 documentary "Looking Back at the Future"). I don't know if I'll get the new set (in either Blu or DVD), I've been content with my 2002 trilogy set for some time (even with the framing issues for II and III). Then again, the lure of a newer documentary is always a plus (though it wasn't plus enough for me to get the 2009 standalone DVD for Back to the Future, or for II and III to get the proper framing). I'm also upset that they still haven't managed to include Huey Lewis & The News' "Back in Time" music video. Maybe when that makes its way to a BTTF release I'll double-dip.

And when are they gonna release the animated series?!?!

They will more than likely have the Blu-ray release of BTTF for about half price within three to five days of its release.

Well, I've been content with my 2002 trilogy pack for some time now (sent away and got the new discs with the proper framing) but I'm definitely going to double dip. Not only is there the PQ/AQ upgrade, but the new documentary sounds awesome, the inclusion of the theme park ride in HD is a MAJOR plus (I loved that ride), and I glad to see the TV special Back to the Future Night's inclusion.

We caught up with Bob last weekend at the 2010 DeLorean Car Show in Lexington, Kentucky to get his thoughts on the new Hi-Def transfers of the films. “The HD transfers for all three films are simply breath-taking,” Gale told BTTF.com. “They actually look better than they did in the theater because of the incredible job that was done on dirt clean-up. (And the film grain is preserved, so they still look like movies should look.) And hearing the sound in full dynamic range is — okay, I’ll say it — a blast!”

He went on to describe the new documentaries, one of which is called Tales from the Future. “I’m sure fans will enjoy the new documentaries, which include interviews with cast and crew members who — for budgetary reasons — were left out of the 2002 documentaries,” he explained. “So there are some stories and anecdotes told on camera for the first time. And since everyone wants to know, there are three very brief snippets of Eric Stoltz incorporated into one of the documentaries.” You heard it here first — finally, film footage of Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly!!

Finally, Bob gave us a description of just some of the remaining bonus features which to expect. “We’ve included an animatic storyboard of the nuclear test site sequence from the early drafts of Part 1; the galleries of stills and artwork have been rescanned at a higher resolution, and we’ve included just about everything from the previous releases as well.”

My wallet is going to be hurting this October with Back to the Future, Psycho, The Maltese Falcon, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, and Beauty and the Beast (I'm going to wait for a non-digibook The Exorcist). I'm just glad Universal is finally getting the good stuff out with two of my favorite movies ever. Now how about the rest of their Hitchcock and Spielberg catalogs?

I'll definitely be nabbing this. The first film is one of my all-time favorites, and I really enjoy the sequels. I'm impressed at all the new stuff they're bringing to this. I've only ever owned the 2002 DVD set, so the stuff created for last year's re-releases will be new to me. The promise of seeing some of that Eric Stoltz footage at last doesn't hurt, either, even if I'm not expecting more than a couple minutes' worth in total. The fourth quarter of the year is going to be VERY expensive for me. Right now I'm already looking at purchasing:

I've upgraded for every DVD re-release of BTTF so far. I will definitely be buying this, they've already dropped the price down at Amazon.com.

If this means that the single film DVD's will get cheaper, then I'm excited. If not, then who cares...

Oooohhh.... any chance the UK Collector's Set will be region free? I'm a huge fan of the original Back To The Future, and I enjoy the sequels, all the swag sounds pretty cool.

"During an interview on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Back to the Future, Bob Gale, BTTF creator, producer and co-writer, said he had seen the movie projected days ago and he thought "it looks so good, so much better than it did in 1985", when it opened in theaters.

He further explained: "When they did the remastering for the Blu-ray they spent over 400 hours doing dirt cleanup, and almost another 200 hours doing color correction, so the movie looks better than it ever did." When a film is shown at the theater, "you have the print going through the projector, it picks up dirt, gets scratched and with the digital technology these guys fixed almost all of that stuff, and it just looks breathtaking.""

I think I will stick with my DVD trilogy and 2-disc DVD of the first film (Which I mainly got for the ride feature).

I was lucky enough to ride it when I had my Make a Wish Trip during the time I went to see Roy E Disney back in 2003...I wish I was able to ride the Star wars version at Disneyland but my Asperger brain was still having visions of someone in my mind turning the channel and images just making me dizzy and my brain was processing too many images I felt a computer dying for a reboot or clean out the cookies and cache after the ride...and my mom threw up after the ride....man i've never seen my mom in the bathroom for 20 minutes...there was so almost...to much to proccess.....if I had done my homework I would have waited on the BTTF Ride and done the Star Wars one at Disneyland the next day.....too bad i'll never get to try the Star Wars one since it's gone away I think.

As much as I love the old BttF ride, and the Star Tours one is great too, the best I've been on was the one at Star Trek: The Experience. Sadly, that has since been shut down. I used to work there in fact.

Of the three, Star Tours is the only one still there.

Not replacing most of my collection with blu ray but I recently ebayed my BTTF trilogy box for a good price & will buy it first day. This is one I have to have.
