I just had the biggest scare of my life!!! O.O

Man, tonight has been one of the scariest of them all! So, me, my mother, father and nephew went to visit my aunt. Just as we were about to leave we hear explosions! We realized that a power line was destroyed due to the wind and rain! Because of this, everything inside the house started exploding due to the high voltage! We all tried to escape the house, but something would be exploding! When everything stopped we ran outside and tried to call the firemen and police. We couldn't get reception so we all stuck together, ran to the car and just drove the hell out of there! We then took shelter as a nearby house until the firemen and police arrived. The worst part was that my mother was still in the process of healing her leg so she couldn't run, and my aunt is very elderly, that's why I stayed with them. On top of this, it was raining and with strong wind, so it was like a bad action movie (or much, much worse, the Final Destination movies :o )

The good news is that no one was hurt because everyone reacted quickly. Right now what they are doing is cutting the power off in the neighborhood so that they can work on the damaged power line. We suspect that a lot of things in my aunt's house was damaged due to the sudden voltage, some say that not a lot of damage happened but we are still suspicious. We can't say for sure, we will investigate tomorrow in the daylight.

That happened nearly three hours ago, but I am still on edge. This beats the earthquake we experienced last May for sure!

:o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

I take it your computer was plugged into a surge suppressor? or maybe you have a laptop?

The explosions sound scary. Glad to hear everyone is alright.

I didn't have my laptop on me. I live downtown, while my aunt lives deeper in the mountains (hence why it's considered electric power hell).

The story goes that this has happened multiple times, and the electric company does a very poor job of solving the problem. Hell, the line was recently fixed, and judging by the results of tonight's incident they did a piss poor job and could have killed a lot of people.

sounds scary. Good to hear it turned out okay.

But it really does sound like something out of a movie.

Just reading that got my heart pumping! I'm glad you all got out safely. :) It'd be nice if something could be done, like contacting your local government or something; if this has happened before, something needs to be done... :(

!!! O my tolito! That sounds unimaginably weird and scary!

Aw, you must have been so terrified! I am so glad you made it out of that alive and well.

But...okay, I hope this isn't too soon, but...

After a while, after a while, you may look back on it and think the exploding was kind of cool, and that the whole thing was kind of funny. Everything exploding randomly. I hope that you feel better...and then maybe laugh.

Sounds like you and your family had a very terrifying experience, but at least nobody was hurt.

Yes, it was terrifying to say the least. I, however, tried my best to keep my calm, since flying off the handle just makes things worse. We had to think how to move around the house while everything was exploding.

But yeah, this is indeed one of those moments that will be looked upon with some humor. It's definitely a great story to tell my grandkids one day... Of course, by then I will have changed it so that I say that I saved everyone in the house ;) :p .

Anyways, an update... We visited my aunt and two cousins and see how bad was the damage. The good news is that nothing was burned and everything was intact regardless of the sparks given out by the explosions. The bad news is that around 90 to 95 percent of the appliances were damaged due to the sudden surge of power. What they told them was to write an estimate of the damage so they can start repairing them. It will take a while, but hopefully it shall be repaired soon.

I'm picturing the climax of Poltergeist, as they are all fleeing the house in the rainstorm... :

Yea it sounded supernatural scary or even like some secret agent villains were trying to blow you up!

I'm glad nothing was burned! And you can buy new appliances. We shouldn't have so many anyway, us materialistic people depending on technology! Even though I totally need my TV, computer, microwave, toaster oven, milkshake maker (that probably wouldn't blow up unless plugged in?)...

What's even more fascinating is some of the decisions taken during the course of the day that lead to the event...

First, the REAL reason we went to visit my elder aunt was because we went to see my aunt (who not only lives very near to my other aunt, she recently had surgery due to some bumps appearing in the same place she had breast cancer a few years ago). When we left her, my dad asked mom if she wanted to drop by and say hello.

Then, my aunt offered us coffee, which at first declined but decided to drink it anyway. We were falling asleep at this point, but the coffee perked us up.

Finally, my nephew (who was driving us), had parked our car near where the power lines started exploding, and because he really wanted to check on the car's lights, he moved the car closer to the house.

If it wasn't for dad's suggestion, my aunt and cousin would have been alone when this happened. If it wasn't for the coffee, we wouldn't have been alert enough to react to the emergency. And if it wasn't for my nephew's persistence about fixing the lights, we wouldn't have gotten to the car or the car would have been severely damaged as well.

I may be exaggerating, but its weird how the small decisions ended up playing a HUGE role in the outcome of the events. :o
