Holes & Lizzie McGuire Movie DVD Release Dates Announced

Amazon.com has the finally-confirmed "Holes" up for pre-order with a release date of September 23, and contrary to Luke's guesses, it seems to be getting dual 1.85 and 1.33 releases (SRP is $29.99 for each.) No specs up there yet and BVHE Publicity doesn't have anything now either, but at least we have the date. Not puting a link in here so that Luke can code it to get something if any of you buy it, but $22.49 seems a bit steep anyway. I'll wait until release week and get it from Target for cheap, most likely. I can't wait to pick it up!

hrm... August 12, the day after school starts...

I can hear my sister now...

"Mommie, can you get this for me, since I just started school?"

Oh god! :P

August 12 is the day before I start year-round school. I'm in summer school now per parents' requirement.

Anyway, count me in for Holes (duh) and out for Lizzie McGuire. I'll get Duel CE on August 12 instead. :D

However, may I point out that this is another reason to believe Jim Hill's release schedule, which listed Lizzie McGuire as 08/12/203 (but no Holes listing.)

As of 02:25 on Saturday, June 07, 2003 UTC/GMT, The Lizzie McGuire Movie's Sales Rank (DVD) on Amazon.com is 134.

That movie sure is popular. :)

Haven't seen Holes yet and don't intend to see it in theaters. I'll probably rent it when it's released. Maybe just go ahead and buy it. I'm not sure.

If the Lizzie movie is fullscreen only I'm going to be quite angry at Disney. It does sound like something they would do though. :x

It sounds to me like Holes is going to get a packed 2-disc set while the Lizzie movie will be getting a fullscreen only, light on extras version. That's just my guess based upon the release dates.

As much as I'd like to see it, I highly doubt that Holes will get the deluxe double-disc treatment. It was a hit for Disney, but not THAT much of a hit. Besides, have they EVER done a multidisc special edition for a fresh-out-of-theaters live action hit? No? I didn't think so.

Holes will probably be simmilar to the Tuck Everlasting disc released earlier this year - a great transfer, a commentary track or two (Andrew Davis and Louis Sachar?), a featurette on Louis Sachar and/or Holes the book.

For the kiddies, Disney will probably load up a game about digging holes, too, and the Dig It music video if there is one.

In the "hopefuls" department, I'd like a making-of featurette, the trailer, TV spots, and a cast member featurette (all mysteryously absent on Tuck Everlasting.) A "From Page to Screen" featurette detailing the changes made to the story to translate it from novel to cinema would be great, too. But in the end I think Holes will get a moderately packed and very worthwhile single-disc edition a la Tuck Everlasting, not a double-disc ultimate edition like, say, the Platinums, Vault Disney, or the Treasures sets. The big two-discer for September is Sleeping Beauty, remember?

Yeah, both "Holes" and "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" will come in separate anamorphic widescreen and fullscreen releases.

New catalog special editions due on September 2nd include The Apple Dumpling Gang, Escape to Witch Mountain, and Return to Witch Mountain. Each comes with remastered THX-certified anamorphic widescreen transfers, plus extras galore. Retail is $24.95 each.

Just so you know, DVD File is totally speaking out of their ass there. There's only going to be one release of Lizzie McGuire Movie, as far as Disney has stated, but it appears it will be widescreen.

The 3 Special Editions are only anamorphic widescreen, as far as we know all the Special Edition/Vault Disney have been. I don't know if they'll be loaded 2-disc sets, since the SRP is just $24.99, but hopefully, there will be a commentary, documentary, and the other goodies that we've come to expect from that line.

But it's all speculation at this point, Disney hasn't issued anything other than an SRP, a release date, a UPC, and cover art.
