Thrilled about Maverick-best TV show not on DVD

Sigh . . . sadly, I'm not surprised. I'd really like to get that last Animaniacs set.

I'm still hoping for a complete Tex Avery set. Um, not that I've picked up Droopy yet but maybe I should stop holding out.

I don't collect many animation DVDs from Warner, or TV shows for that matter, but I'm glad to hear Mamma's Family sets are still on the table, and I like the idea about TV shows maybe coming to the Warner Archive. For short-lived classic shows, I think that may be the best option.

I asked about Pac-Man and got the dreaded "no plans at this time" that a great majority of the shows got. I'd really like to see Pac-Man, Thundarr, and The Pirates of Dark Water get complete series releases.

Warner's great with their Warner/MGM shorts and their Hanna-Barbera TV shows, but when it comes to releasing their Cartoon Network shows, they're one of the worst.

My brother bought Seasons 1 & 2 of Ed, Edd n Eddy and Season 1 of The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy years ago and has still been waiting for the rest of the seasons to be released. I had to tell him the bad news that they don't have any plans of finishing them. How do they expect anyone to want the Johnny Bravo or Courage the Cowardly Dog Season 1 sets when there is no guarantee that they'll finish them? Samurai Jack and The Powerpuff Girls are the only sets they've finished (technically they never finished The Powerpuff Girls seasons and just released a Complete Series box set, screwing over those who bought a couple of the individual seasons).

I'm glad to see they're looking into releasing the DCAU on Blu-ray. Their complete series box sets for Batman, Superman, and Justice League are awesome and I've been holding out for them on Blu. Unfortunately, I don't trust them as they released Justice League Season 1 on Blu-ray years ago and still haven't finished the series. I'm seeing a trend.

Also, the part about Warner releasing their Widescreen shows and DTVs in Pan & Scan shouldn't be a surprise. Cartoon Network HD has to be the worst station ever. They show the true HD widescreen presentation of a show the day it premiers and then forever on reruns they use the SD Pan & Scan version and stretch it to widescreen. I hate their station but at least they released The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack and Chowder in their native aspect ratios on DVD (even if I have absolutely no desire to buy those shows).

Warner Television needs to get their act together.

That Justice League set was open matted (it was animated in 4:3 with the intention of matting it into widescreen). So, most people didn't buy it (they made the same mistake when they released it on DVD, so it could've been corrected easily). Warner therefor makes the decision to not release the rest, because the first season didn't sell. Basically, they screwed up and we are paying the price for it. If it was released correctly, we would've had more sets. I'm certain of that.

My thoughts:
A Tex Avery set - Actually, I'd prefer that it didn't include the Droopy cartoons. That set is already available at a good price, and I'd think that including them in a Tex Avery set would raise the price. I'd love to see a Tex Avery set though.

Maybe they could make a "Tex Avery" set or three with just the standard shorts, and then a Tex Avery Series" set, inlcuding George & Junior, Screwy Squirrel, and Spike (from the Droopy cartoons). He also did a lot of Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies titles (which I'd rather see in Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies sets.)

I'm a fan of all of those...
A Gene Deitch "Tom & Jerry" set would be good, and I'm STILL waiting for the last two uncensored Hanna Barbera shorts. If they went with a super T&J set, they could have all the MGM/Hanna Barbera, the Gene Deitch, and the Chuck Jones shorts (all UNCENSORED) along with the handful of other cartoons featuring T&J characters, like the Spike or Spike & Tyke shorts. - Whoops, evidently, Spike was a character from Droopy, while the Spike from T&J was a different character. They were later combined on the T&J Comedy Show. Of course, the 5 "Spike" cartoons are from Tex Avery, and would presumably be included in that set.

I'm glad that (more) Peanuts and Scooby-Doo are being evaluated for Blu-ray. I really liked the Blu-ray quality of "A Charlie Brown Christmas," and I'd love to see Scooby-Doo on Blu. Oh, and Looney Toons too for Blu!

I'm still wondering when the heck they're going to finish Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, or at least release a complete series boxed set ala Powerpuff Girls. I've avoided buying the first two seasons in hopes of a boxed set, but I'm starting to get withdrawals now that the show's no longer airing on Cartoon Network.
