The original wasn't really a movie that piqued my interest, but it was the only thing on when Rey and I were staying at a hotel one night around Christmas. It was totally not the zany, goofball comedy we were expecting (although it obviously had comedic scenes) and we really, really enjoyed the more serious aspects of the story.
But having said that I don't see it warranting a sequel, otherwise it might go in the direction of zaniness for the sake of zaniness.

I think the trailer is also on my Fantastic Mr. Fox Blu-Ray, but I skimmed past it.
What I don't understand is how the John Grogan, the author of Marley & Me, could let this happen.

This is the type of movie that does NOT need a sequel.

Of that group :
Air Bud and family
Beethoven and family
The chihuahuas of Beverly Hills Chihuahua (appently a sequel is coming DTV

)
Benji
and now Marley
at least Kujo dosn't appear as a bad guy....wait that might be the answer to all ths

My thoughts exactly. I found the original movie to be rather good and while I understand the appeal of making a series that is like printing money (see Disney's Buddies tripe), there should be shame involved when the source is not some frivolous family film but a respectful adaptation of your life experiences. Wag of the finger to you, Mr. Grogan!

It's technically a midquel, not a sequel. But it still seems like a cash-in for Marley fans and dog enthusiasts.

But he is cute!

Jeez, can't they think of any other louzy animal movies to release direct to video. Does it really have to be a sequel to Marley & Me, it had such a perfect ending. FOX is gonna milk this for all its worth, aren't they. I blame those damn anthropormorphic 'Buddies' movies.
But its come to the point where they're basically turning this into Frankenweenie - seems to be the only direction that's possible at this point.

Or a new dog, which would be really random, and not very interesting, and probably sad... yet again.

Please...don't even suggest that Disney would even think to do a Frankenweenie sequels or FrankenPuppies....although I wouldn't it put it past them.....

No, they don't need FrankenMarley or a new dog, it's a prequel.
But that is what I thought before, how could they do a sequel when he (SPOILER ALERT: got put to sleep!), but I thought they were just gonna ignore that because cash-makers don't care.
But seriously, this is very disrespectful unless the guy who wrote the book gives them his approval and his real stories to use.
But...a magical new adventure? Magical? Unless the real life dog had ran into a magic show at some point I can't see this making an sense or respect. And if they mean magical as in something like fun, exciting, heartwarming, or adventurous, that is the loosest most wrong use of the word ever.

I dunno, maybe this midquel is actually based on some real life story/stories not retold yet.
But that's my youthful optimism speaking.
