"High School Musical" Spin-Off Film in the Works!

Zap2It.com reports that Ashley Tisdale will star in a spin-off film to the "High School Musical" series, to air on Disney Channel in 2011.
Big news for the tween set (and some of you grown-ups, too... we don't judge)! Ashley Tisdale will return to Disney, reprising her "High School Musical" role of divalicious Sharpay Evans in her very own movie.

Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron may have graduated from the series, but Tisdale is both starring in and executive producing "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure," which follows the hilarious blonde on her quest to conquer New York City and make it to the Broadway Stage.

In a statement, Disney said: "In Sharpay, Ashley Tisdale brought to life one of the most memorable comedic characters we've seen in years. This movie captures the absolutely perfect next chapter in Sharpay's life, as she tries to cultivate the humanity buried, deep, deep within her -- a challenging and hilarious endeavor."

The TV movie, which will begin production this summer, is slated to premiere on The Disney Channel in 2011.

The apocalypse is upon us all! What do you think? Or, (gasp)could this be an early April Fool's Day joke?

EDIT: "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure" confirmed AS HAPPENING on Ashley Tisdale's own official site! With Sharpay going to New York, could we see cameos from two other Wildcats?

Well, Sharpay always was the most interesting character in that series. I only hope she's played more like in the first two. In HSM3, she seemed less "diva"-ish and more "spoiled, rich girl"-ish

Hope Lucas Grabeel is in it, too.

If this is an April Fools joke, I'll laugh XD

No, no, no. She shouldn't stay at Disney. I admit I'm not a fan of the Disney Channel Original Movies, especially HSM. But somehow I don't think staying at Disney will help her future career. If I were her I would leave the Mouse House and try to do some serious acting to get some recognition in Hollywood. I find her to have much more potential than the other Disney starlets.

This project *will* be successful, though.

Don't they already have a new HSM film in the works with just Sharpay from the original films?

This is either VERY old news or perhaps HSM 5

Oh dont be so shocked :P

Either way the full awfulness of HSM 3 gave me full reason to quit on this franchise

I'm really excited, as long as it's not an April Fools joke! I love Sharpay- she's always been my favorite HSM character- so I can't wait! But what about HSM4?!

AOL's Inside TV website had this at the end of their article on Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure:
Don't worry, though. The boundless hilarity of 'Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure' won't interfere with production of 'High School Musical 4': That epic is still in the works, also with an expected 2011 release date.
So, blackcauldron85, we've already established two things.

1.)This is NOT an April Fool's joke,

and 2.)the production of Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure will not interfere, IN ANY WAY, with the production of High School Musical:East Meets West.

I actually like this idea. I know it's been "confirmed" but I won't believe it until April Fools Day is over.

I never thought that Miley Cyrus would be leaving Disney before Ashley Tisdale...

Well....Sharpay will be around longer the Hannah Montanna....I'm not exactly sure that's a winning situation either.... :P

“Camp Rock 2” will promote “Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure,” which will then promote …
http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/ ... nture.aspx
she did reveal that at least one of her co-stars from the “High School Musical” series would be putting in a surprise appearance in “SFA.”
To me, it'd seem that Lucas would make the most sense, like Ryan would be visiting his sister in New York. And I doubt that Corbin would return... :(
one of the ads that’s absolutely guaranteed to run during this Disney Channel Original is a commercial for the reboot of its "High School Musical" TV movie series. Which is expected to begin shooting sometime next year with a brand-new cast and then air on this cable network in 2012.
I thought that this was further along the production pipeline for some reason...?

Did they change the title to High Stakes?

Apparently (and unfortunately), yes. That's what the project is listed under on IMDb...

Really, how do you go from "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure" to "High Stakes"???

perhaps the Same way Rapunzel went to Tangled or Bear and the Bow went to Brave??

Or Perhaps its that Disney Male Demographic Angle...Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure sounded too girly so they scaled down.....I wouldn't be surprised if that was the main reason for it...

I understand what you're getting at, but at least Tangled and Brave still have some semblance to the original title/plot. "High Stakes" sounds like some movie about poker rather than a new High School Musical DCOM all about Sharpay Evans...

Maybe the Stakes for Sharpay are High?? then there's that Male Demographic Factor Disney has been going on about lately...

Whoever wrote the caption for that picture of Ashley needs to get their facts straight!
She's baaack! Clad in Sharpay's signature hot pink, cage heels and favorite accessory – dog Manly! – the Disney starlet reprises her role for The High School Musical spinoff High Stakes.
Sharpay's dog is named Boi, while Manly (Little Pickles Ortega) is the dog's name in real life!

According to IMDb, the film is about Sharpay getting a Broadway role, but when she actually arrives at the Great White Way she realizes that it's not as good of a role as she thought it was. So her stakes could be "high" but the former title was much better.

And I don't know why Disney would rename a movie about High School Musical's Sharpay so it could appeal to boys. I think that's a lost cause. And hasn't Disney XD pretty much flopped, too? What Disney needs to focus on now is getting back to producing entertainment fit for the whole family, not just one or two members of it.

Isn't Ashley Tisdale's sex appeal enough to draw in the male audience? XD I mean, it's a good reason why I watch the HSM movies in the first place
