So, the leader of The Avengers has been cast and it's the guy who played "The Human Torch" in the Fantastic Four movies!
For me, I'm not sure how I feel about it. He may work out, but I can't help thinking every time that I'll see the Torch instead of Captain America.

He's better than some of the names I've heard thrown around for Captain America. As far as seeing Torch I'm sure a lot of people will. He isn't the first to play 2 comic characters though... Ryan Reynolds will be playing Deadpool, and Green Lantern.

But the difference there is that Reynolds is playing characters from different Universes. Evans is playing two characters from the same Universe.

Aren't they doing a reboot of the Fantastic Four movies....who knows when it'll come but I at one point heard there were plans to reboot it so Chris Evans if the reboot happens probably will not be The Human Torch should a reboot indeed occur

This should probably still be moved to another section. It's still not quite Disney, despite being Marvel.

Am I the only one who's a bit bothered that they've cast Chris Evans as Captain America? He already portrayed "The Human Torch" in Fantastic Four 1 & 2.
Since both characters are part of the Marvel "universe" shouldn't they at least try to maintain a sort of basic continuity in their films by NOT casting the same actor for two different Marvel characters? They're like a gazillion other actors with similar "skills" who could have portrayed Captain America instead.

First, I agree, at least when Ryan Reynolds played his second comic book character, it was a different comic book universe!
Second, even though it is a strange feeling and sight seeing Marvel anything on a Disney board, it belongs here now technically as much as Pixar does. That said, I don't want to see Mr. Fantastic and Spider-Man next to Sleeping Beauty castle in Disneyland and I DON'T want to see the Disney logo on "The Avengers" next summer and "Iron Man 3" after that! There is only so much mixing any good fan of either can take after all.
Third, this and "Thor" are maybe the films I'm the most excited for this summer, even more then "Pirates 4" or "Cars 2." Everything I've seen from both Marvel films really gets me excited!

X-Men First Class looks good too, even though they aren't really promoting it too much. Its coming out in June! The Russian trailer for it was really cool.

I'm not going to lie, I hope "X-Men: First Class" and "The Amazing Spider-Man" fail so that Marvel can get their characters back. I'd much rather see these guys be part of the "Marvel Cinematic Universe" and made and controlled by the guys who made them in the first place rather then Fox and Sony.
If there was a way that Fox and Sony would give them back without these films failing, I'd be good with that. But being as that is basically the only way it will happen, let it be done I say!

I'm definitely looking forward to this one. Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man 2 did not disappoint. So, I'm hoping Marvel proper (not FOX or Sony) can keep the quality for their Avenger films up. Also looking forward to Thor.
Speaking of FOX though, I'm hoping at the very least that X-Men: First Class will be watchable, Wolverine 2 I could take or leave. I'm kind of worried since the last two Marvel films FOX made (Origins: Wolverine, and The Last Stand) were mediocre, at best.

Well, Darren Aronofsky(
Black Swan) is directing
The Wolverine, so that should be interesting.

Yes, I guess Darren Aronofsky could be pretty good for the new Wolverine movie, though I could've sworn I read an article a few days or maybe a week or so ago that said he bailed out because he couldn't go to Japan for a long period of time. If I'm right, I hope he reconsiders. That could make Wolverine 2 interesting again.
EDIT: Corrected my previous comment because of dumb mistake. It's First Class, not New Class.

You're right, though, Aronofsky dropped out.

Yeah, I can't see a Fantastic Four movie without the Human Torch. Way too iconic a character to replace regardless of whether or not the character is alive in the comics.
Although I expect a couple of years down the road that they'll bring him back to life one way or the other.

Well, the official statement given was that he couldn't be away from his family for so long. However, he and Rachel Weisz have been separated, so I don't think that's the true reason. I think Fox didn't want him to give full control of the movie, and they didn't want an R rated Wolverine movie.

I figured since Thor got a Disney Discussion thread, and Disney is distributing the Avengers movie. It only seemed logical to dedicate a thread to this one.

It seems pretty unique to me because whereas the other Marvel Heroes origins stories received updates for the big screen, they stayed true to the comic in that this one's a WWII period film. From someone who knows nothing of the mythology of the character, I'll be getting tickets to see it.
