How hard is it to hook internet connection up to a Blu-Ray player? Since it'll almost be a requirement for it to have internet connection to receive it's firmware updates, what is the most efficient/easiest/cheapest way to do that? All I use for internet is a simple modem.

It might be worth noting that my computer is not in the same room or close to the same room the player would be in.

It's not hard at all, really. When you have your player hooked into the modem, you can set it up via the setup menu, and most players will be able to detect the network used in your household. From there, it's simply following the on-screen instructions and in a minute or less, it's connected.

Does the player have wireless or wired connections?

You don't need an internet connection to do the firmware updates. I have a Sony player that I do not have hooked up online (I don't care about BD-Live, etc... so I left it unhooked). Firmware updates can be downloaded on a computer and then loaded to the Blu-ray player by creating an upgrade disc.

Well, my internet is a wired connection. The player I get would probably have wired as well.

Hooking a player up to the modem is the problem.

The modem I am using is the Westell 6200 which was given by my internet provider. I never hooked up any consoles/players to the internet before.

If it's wired, you just plug it into an input, either on the modem or a wireless adapter you may be using.

If all you have is the Westell modem you may need to buy a router if you want to keep the computer and Blu-ray player connected at the same time. If not just unhook the computer from the Westell and hook the Blu-ray player to it.

I've been meaning to hook up my Blu-ray player to the Internet too... I've got a wireless router but I think I need a special adapter for my Blu-ray player.
