Hi everyone from Italy. As we all know Fantasia is about to be reissued in blu ray. We on our Italian Disney Forum would like that this time the picture should be seen without any cuts or censorship of the famous scene with the black centaurette in the “Pastoral” segment. Down with zooming or digital removing! It’s time Fantasia is shown in its original and best form. We think are still in time and so we’ve made a petition on www.petitiononline.com
Would you like to sign it and help us?
Here's the link to our Italian Forum thread
http://disneyvideo.altervista.org/forum ... 1317&st=25
And here's the one with the petition
http://www.petitiononline.com/fant1940/petition.html
Thanks
Nunziante Valoroso from Italy

Being a mature adult I would like it in its original form, too.. but I can understand why it's cut, and I'm sure it will remain cut for the new release.

They should at least include it as a bonus. I'd really prefer to see the original, though, but I'd be happy if it were retained in some form.

Besides, I doubt that many kids and soccer moms will really sit through the movie enough to even see sunflower.

I think it should be released uncut if the masters still exist, I honestly don't think the type of people that Fantasia would attract would worry about Sunflower.

The problem lies that it is a Disney movie, and no matter what a child will see this film. To go along with that a lot more people would watch this scene and see offense in it than think nothing of it (like the majority of people on this forum would see no offense). I would much rather see this film released with these very minor cuts than never see it released ( ala Song of the South). Unfortunately, I promise those would be our only options.

If that "Sunflower" segment was the only thing cut from the original film then I dont see what the big deal is in having this film uncut. It never bothered me to see missing footage the many times I've watched this film. I barely even noticed it.

Thanks for starting this petition! I actually kinda awaited it since Fantasia is such an important movie in every way.

I'd sign it, but to be frank, petition don't matter to Hollywood. At least the Hollywood of today. They will do what they will do and the rest of us either buy their crap and skip it.

I'd love to see an uncut version and feel they need to release it, but I don't think that will happen.

I agree, those massive Song of The South petitions haven't done much for that cause. I don't see how a Fantasia one will be any different. I don't mean to be a negative nancy, but you know...

Gah! If I could, I would drag everyone who gets offended at that out into the street and shoot them.

I mean, c'mon people. Life is WAY too short to get hung up on "racial stereotypes". I'd love it if some non-American country "made fun" of Americans, so that I could just laugh with it and show that I'm not some uptight moron.

Actually, I bet they do. It's just filtered on American Television.

I can assure you that the original master most likely exist as acording to animation historian Jerry Beck Disney took best care of its animation materal.

Well, here's an idea that will drive parents far away:

"Fantasia: Unrated" :P

I signed this petition because I think Italians rock ... and should win the World Cup again in South Africa.

But I would like an uncensored Fantasia too!

The version Disney wants to release is most likely already fully restored and ready to be mass-produced on discs everywhere in the world. Which is a good reason as to why this is quite useless, but whatever helps you sleep better at night I guess.

And have internet petitions ever really worked, especially for Disney. I can remember all the petitions going around to release the remainder of some of the Disney Afternoon shows and multiple re-releases for movies only released in full-screen. And now this Rapunzel-Tangled petition which is also clearly not going to work - since, well to behonest, I doubt they care. At best, they choose to ignore the petition - at worst, they don't know of it's existance.

But what the heck, I'll sign it.

I'll sign it so long as the creator knows where to send it once it's finished.

Wasn't there American stereo-typing in one of the 'package' films and it was edited out on the DVD? I seem to remember something like that.

During the election of 2008, there was an article in the Wall Street Journal talking about Blacks in America and what Obama meant to that. They interviewed and followed some blacks from Africa who were going to an American school, I think Harvard. Anyway, they said they didn't associate with blacks from the US because they felt they were too racist and always winning about something they didn't get because "The Man" kept them down.

My point? I'm rather sure the rest of the World already has opinions of racism in the US and how down right dumb it gets.

I said this before but I will restate here because I think that it needs to be said.

They should release, 2 versions of Fantasia on the Fantasia Bluray.

1. The uncut, uncensored original version of the film.

2. A family friendly cut with not only the offensive material removed but also much of the inbetween narration. Kids really don't want to sit threw all the talking. They'd be more up to watching it in a shorter version without those parts. When their older and have more patience, then they can watch the longer cut if they choose to.
