Dumbo on Broadway?

Disney's "Dumbo" Could Be a Broadway Hit
Yes, God forbid Disney try to bring over "Der Glockner" and instead spend who knows how much time and money expanding a sixty-four minute film for Broadway. Also, if this ends up akin to "The Little Mermaid" where we have a six-foot-tall Timothy J. Mouse and a five-foot-tall Dumbo, I'm going to punch someone.

Other potential Disney Broadway shows:
Peter Pan
Alice in Wonderland
Pete's Dragon
Lady and the Tramp
Tron
The Apple Dumpling Gang
The Band Concert
Make Mine Music
The Watcher in the Woods
Ben and Me
Old Yeller
Chicken Little
Never A Dull Moment
Victory Through Air Power
Then there's also Disney's new ballet based on Carmen...

I'm not big on animal movies going to broadway. The style they used for The Lion King was perfect but I can't imagine anything similar working for Lady and the Tramp or Dumbo or something like that, you'd just end up with people in dog costumes on stage along with elephant puppets and god knows what else.

^ Says everything I need to say about Dumbo on Broadway besides wondering what Disney would do about the crows.
And as for your post Wondy, I could see Ben and Me on Broadway. If 1776 could be done, why not it!?

Why? Bad idea...
Although, with the whole Circus thing and the Pink Elephants on Parade stuff, it could be an awesome spectacle show. Anything more than that, I doubt it.
But I honestly don't see Disney actually bringing this to Broadway.

.....
the first question that popped into my head was: "will the crows still be racist?"

You know, I think this could work. Really, it could. If they do it RIGHT!

It deserves a facepalm, and not just any facepalm:
A double, and a

, and to finish it off

And the thing I don't get is that this can't possibly be the best choice to do on Broadway in terms of popularity. These shows run on tourists predominantly, and I bet if you polled them, "Dumbo" probably wouldn't be anywhere on the list of top ideas. I mean... this will have to be padded so much. And I just wonder how they'll add to the five songs in the score (I'm expecting "Song of the Roustabouts" to be cut). Maybe "We're Gonna Hit the Big Boss for a Raise" will be transformed into a ten-minute long splashy production number. I can only hope...
Also, crap- the frickin' elephant is mute! He never talks! It's worse than having the de-voiced Ariel sing solos.

They did say he was going to talk in the now shelved Dumbo II that was advertised its first debut on DVD.....and also TinkerBell now talks through Disney Fairies (if that phrase went around in 70s...Disney Fairies

)

Maybe they'll partially base it on Dumbo's Circus.

That idea excites me so much...not that I don't love the movie, but I lived for
Dumbo's Circus as a little kid...!!!

Stevie Wonder approached to write new "Dumbo" songs
...because when I think of "Baby Mine" and "Pink Elephants on Parade" I of course think of Stevie Wonder.

I can imagine
Dumbo being a 25-30 minute show in a Disney park (ex: The Legend of The Lion King and The Spirit of Pocahontas). Making a Broadway production out of the film is absurd. Instead there should be that half hour show I mentioned or a street parade in tribute to the Pink Elephants on Parade sequence thrown in DLR or WDW or both of these ideas.

whatever happened to dumbo 2? though i do think a sequel is a bad idea. i think it would cheaper the charm and heart of the original.

Yeah...as I said...it got shelved...meaning they canceled the film...
also Disney has come out with DTVs and sequels not because they even care about he charm or the heart......if it will sell...they will make to get sold..in which then I picture Disney like this:
