I just saw a commercial for it! This Saturday (March 6th).
Wow, this is a first, isn't it?

I was just about to post this!

Well, yes, it is quite... odd that they're airing it. I like it! Maybe this is good news for what's to come!

This is great! Hopefully more will follow. And didn't Disney channel just air Pocahontas?

That's good to hear. I hope there'll be more movies to follow in the future, Disney Channel or elsewhere.

Am I the only one a little unsettled by this? I mean, if it's just a one-time thing, it isn't so bad. But even the fact that it's playing on ABCFamily seems to degrade the movie; maybe on ABC it could be regarded as the classic it is.
I don't mind the lesser films being played on TV, but for movies like Lady and the Tramp, Peter Pan, or Snow White (of all things) it's just degrading. They're better than re-runs on TV.

only problem is that ABC Family takes commercials at the WORST spots and then doesn't do a proper return from commercial fade in........
Disney Channel is where Snow White SHOULD be airing, NOT ABC Family.

I fully agree with Disney's Divinity.
Of all the Disney classics, this one should not be shown so casually on TV. Maybe a 1 night only (commercial free?) special on ABC, that happens every ten years, but not like this. I don't even know if it should be seen on TV at all, ever.
Wasn't there something about it never being shown fully on TV? If they cut it down, like didn't have all full-length of scenes, would that be respecting that tradition?
But if Disney lets stuff like this happen, it's just another sign of what they are allowing themselves to turn into...

Actually, it's not a bad thing. ABC Family is a good channel to have its cable premiere (they stressed the cable premiere aspect in the commercial), along with a channel like TCM. Mary Poppins had its "real" cable premiere (other than Disney channel) on ABC Family. Also, The Sound of Music is only shown on ABC and ABC Family exclusively. When it comes on ABC Family, it has its own special weekend and treated like an event that occurs usually on Easter weekend and Labor Day weekend.
I think ABC Family is a legit cable channel to show Disney classics.
And, I think it's coming on again next Wednesday.

This is unusual, but I think it'll make more fans out of casual viewers who didnt bother to buy the movie when it came out. Also, they showed Pinocchio once or twice, and that turned out not massively affecting on the schedule.

As others have stated, this is a little surprising. I've always heard Snow White was supposed to be "untouchable", "unbroadcastible" if you will. Then again, I'm not sure I can take this status too seriously. And if they can make an event out of it, that wouldn't be bad either.
Maybe that night I'll just watch the BD!

It's also coming on Disney Cinemagic and Disney Cinemagic HD in the UK, Sunday 7th March 19:30.

It is unbelievable but even in the Czech Republic (country in the heart of European Union) the Disney Channel will air Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs on March 8.
Why such a change? Some Disney movies were supposed to be treasures...

it should air interruption free on DISNEY channel. ABC Family, as I said, takes too many commercials and tends to take them at the worst spots. For example: they air repeats of Full House daily. Right after the opening credits, they might show one little scene and then fade out for commercial!
If they are going to air Snow White, it should be shown COMMERCIAL FREE and with the greatest respect, like with an introduction by Leonard Maltin.
When they air The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, they always have to have 3 and a half hours allotted because they take nearly a whole HOUR of commercial breaks. I fear they could butcher SW&7D if they take too many breaks.

They always will be.
This is not something to take so seriously.
And, JediLiz, I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to agree with those who feel that airing it on ABC Family is a good idea, considering Disney Channel's lack of willingness to show older classics (commercial-free or otherwise) in recent times.
Let's at least be glad that the classics are still such attention. Better than nothing, I say.
And if they end up generating more fans of the old-school material, than it would be a reason to celebrate, as it just might increase any chances of Disney's cable networks becoming more willing to broadcast classic Disney movies and shows on a regular basis again.

I agree with those of you saying that this airing might just let the movie make some new fans. As long as they don't play it often at all, then I don't see it hurting too much.

Honestly, I have faith in ABC Family. They haven't disappointed me yet with airings of my favorite movies, and I think Snow White will be treated well. Also, I know plenty of people my age who would watch ABC Family than Disney channel, so it'll get a whole new group of fans.

Well, I just hope they dont pull a corpse bride and make the commercials take up almost half the movie.

That's what my point was.
When Disney Channel FINALLY premiered TLTW&TW last summer, they had enough sense to air it INTERRUPTION FREE (no breaks, no music videos, nothing, completely dedicated the whole time to the movie). ABC Family takes an hour worth of commercials when they air that movie.
If they truly want to give this classic animated film the respect it deserves, they'll air it
commercial free.

Yeah, but it's been played many times before. So has
Pocahontas and
Tarzan.
