Where do I find concept art and such then?

I know Pixar has 'Art of' books and I've seen for Pirates of the Caribbean.

I know that there are "Art Of" books, including: The Lion King, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules and Mulan. I'm sure there are others, but those are just the ones that my local library have. I used to trace the pictures and hang them up on my wall when I was little.

and Disney will be releasing a new Art of book for Beauty and the Beast this year in august... A new art of book is also in development for "Tangled" by Jeff Kurtti, to be released in late 2010

Thanks, I was searching for one of Tarzan but that doesn't exist.

I guess there is hope if they are just releasing BATB this year but it's BATB so my hope is still justifiably not very high.

Is it normal for Disney to release 'Art of' books years later?

Tarzan does have an Art of - just with a stupid name. Search Amazon for "Tarzan Chronicles".

I personally have TLK, Pocahontas, HonD (these three also came in minuture versions - buyer beware!), Hercules, Treasure Planet (this + Lilo only came in Paperback... 2002 was a crappy year in general for Disney), Bolt and Princess. I have Fantasia 2000 in the mail as we speak.

Beauty is a unique case - they were shitscared the original book wouldn't sell so they did a general animation book "feauturing BatB"). The new book is to rectify it's the only DAC post 1989 (bar Rescuers??) missing a book.

Well, I have The Art of Bolt and (although this doesn't count, since it's a Dreamworks movie) The Art of Kung Fu Panda. I plan to get The Art of The Princess and the Frog.

In fact there are several other "The Art of..." books and sorts been published years ago. These are the ones I own that wasn't mentioned in this thread:

- TARZAN (it DOES exist, it's called "The Tarzan Chronicles" and it's just as big and beautiful as books of Pocahontas and THOND for example).
- CHICKEN LITTLE (paperback, A4 size)
- FANTASIA (publishd in the eighties, lots and lots of text compared to others but great amount of great pictures, too)
- DINOSAUR (different size than any other, paperback)

And then there's that book of Beauty and the Beast in the Deluxe Video Edition of Beauty and the Beast, paperback.

I also have all of "The Art of.." books mentioned in this thread exept for Bolt and Meet the Robinsons. I may buy them sometime, but those aren't as important as books of 2D classics.

I think the only modern day Disney animated feature to not get an art of book was "The Emporer's New Groove"

If you want, I can snap some pics of the book or a video so you can see just how gorgeous it is! It's huge, filled with GREAT artwork and a journal style of writing with notes by everyone involved in production.

robster16, I've got all those books about classics, too (excluding Atlantis and Bolt) plus Chicken Little and Dinodaur but not all of the other books you mentioned. I think there are some books in my collection also you didn't list but I can't check right now.

You might want to get ontop of getting the art of PATF book because I read in a thread here that it's going OOP...I have my copy reserved at Barnes and noble and when I asked if they were/could order more they said no because it was on backorder which supports this book Is going OOP...

and I just checkeed on its OOP on amazon already..

It's actually a great way to improve your drawing skills. A lot of how I learned to draw involved tracing Disney coloring book pages and comic book covers when I was little.
