And there it was, gone...

So, looks like us Disney fans here in Vancouver are without a Disney Store. Earlier today I went to the mall where the only one in the area is/ was (MetroTown mall) and when I got to the spot where it's suppose to be, I found a simple purple wall (part of the malls colour scheme). I know Disney's been closing stores, but I thought ours wouldn't be one of them, as it was always crowed, and on my last visit (mid- November?), they seemed to be in the middle of a big hiring campaign and everything. So, I just wanted to discuss, how have other Disney fans dealt with loosing their local stores, and what my fellow Disney fans in BC feel upon hearing this news.

It's been a couple of years now, but I'd been excited about a new Disney Store that had been planned in the Fashion Show Mall here in Las Vegas. They had an empty store front boxed off, decorated with Disney characters and an announcement that it was "coming soon." Unfortunately, it never did open; the display was quietly taken down around a time a lot of the stores were closing across the country. Luckily we still have one in the Meadows Mall, I just wish they carried more than just children's merchandise like back in the old days.

The one I had closed just under a decade ago. I really miss it. all I have now is a disney outlet store, but that only gets overstock other disney stores dont want.

lately all the stores in my local mall I used to like have dissapeard. KB toys, and Suncoast are gone now. eb games got converted into a used game only gamestop (though there is still another normal gamestop in the same mall)

I hate it when these things happen. its not like the stores replacing them are even comparable either, we're talking more shoe stores and whatnot. like we didnt already have 4 of those. We need more specilty shops with movie related things.

Oh yeah, almost forgot we have a Disney outlet store as well, but it gets overstock from the theme parks and can be hit or miss.

It was really hard to see Suncoast, Media Play, and KB die off back where I used to live. We do have one Suncoast left in one of the malls out here, but I'm afraid it's gonna bite the dust at any moment.

I used to work at a Disney Store and it closed... we all sat around and sang the Mickey Mouse Club theme on our last night.

"Now it's time to say goodbye to all our family, M-I-C-K-E-Y-M-O-U-S-E."

The store manager also let us load up on all of the leftover Lithographs and stuff... The Lion King was the big release at the time, so we all got a lot of Lion King stuff that was supposed to be destroyed.

Fun place to work :)

Totally random comment: During the summer my third grade teacher used to work at the Disney store I had. it was odd seeing her in a different work environment like that. you have someone I kinda thought of as evil (she liked to openly mock me for being one of the slower students) one day then she's all smiles the next while ringing people up at the store.

My local Disney store in Ottawa just recently shut down. I was so surprised that it did, because every time I used to go, there was always a line up. Some of my favourite memories as a kid was me going to the Disney store, since my mom was also a crazy Disney collector.

Now the closest Disney store to me is 6 hours away and there's no way I'm doing that. My sister is obsessed with Princess Tiana (because her name is also Tiana), and for Christmas I decided to get her the Princess Tiana wedding gown doll. They weren't sold in regular stores in Canada yet, so the only place I could buy it was on disneystore.com. The doll costed $16.50, and after dollar exchange and delivery, I ended up paying $45 for it!! I want my Disney store back ... I'm not crying, I just got something in my eye :P.

My Local Disney Store at the Fox River Mall closed down a few years ago. I went there a few times, but it was mostly stuff I wasn't really interested in. Now, I am. Thanks a lot Disney! :(

Gosh, the last time, I was in a Disney Store was in Paris when I was 5. I had also last year the chance to visit the stores in London and Venice, but there were to many other places to be visit. The german stores in Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich closed 10 years ago or so. :(

I've never had one near me in my life, and the ones I've revisited on vacations have never been particularly impressive, so I can't really miss something I've never had.

Strange, I never thought of The Disney Store as that rare. I have one an hour away in Louisville, Kentucky and about an hour and a half in Florence, Kentucky near Cincinnati, Ohio. They're both cool places to visit. :)
