I know there's a thread pertaining to the D23 fan community itself but I think it would be appropriate to have a thread set aside for the discussion of the magazines and their contents so here it is!

I agree! I'm not a member of D23, but I always buy the magazine when it comes out. It may be one of the best magazines ever published, and I simply can't get enough of it! February 2 can't get here fast enough!

Disney twenty-three is such a great magazine, and I feel like each issue has been getting better and better! I really like the blend of classic and contemporary in the magazine, and I feel like its creators really respect that they're catering to a very passionate, knowledgeable fan base. For example, the letter at the beginning of the 3rd issue described their efforts to do a Haunted Mansion story that would have new information for ardent fans of the ride and not patronize them... I really appreciated that effort, and feel that it paid off! The article wasn't a retread of well-known Haunted Mansion trivia or even a summary of an in-depth source like Jason Surrell's Haunted Mansion book. I really feel like every issue is accessible to Disney's broad fan base and manages to neither patronize the fanatics nor alienate those whose interest is more casual.

I can't wait to see what future issues will cover! This is the sort of thing I'd been missing since Disney Magazine was canceled. It's nice to look forward to some fascinating "Mickey Mail" again!

Any ideas on how to get back-issues? I just ordered the first issue with DMR points. How many others have been issued?

disneystore.com has the first 3 issues for sale, but I'm not sure if the 4th one is on there yet or not.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that only D23 members can order back-issues through the Disney store website. Only the current issue can be purchased by everyone else. (I think so, anyway)

You're right. I just checked. Back-orders are only available to members through the Disney store website.

@kbehm29: I recommend checking out smaller book stores that move their inventory slower. You might find some back issues behind the new issue.

You're right. I just checked. Back-orders are only available to members through the Disney store website.

We always find back issues at the Disney Store. They still have the Haunted Mansion issue out.

I completely agree, Ariellen. As a huge Haunted Mansion fan, I was astounded by the wealth of information that I never heard anywhere else before, such as Wally Boag's idea for the telephone booth and the Dick Irvine story notes for the dropped Mr. Meaker plot line. Aso I had never seen that picture of Blaine Gibson sculpting the crone pop-up head and the Tokyo flying dining room idea sketch before. The Princess and the Frog and the Rapunzel articles were wonderful to read as well. I wonder what they have in store for the spring issue.

I'm a D23 member and the magazine is amazing! My boyfriend and I were in the Haunted Mansion issue in the D-Society section and a friend of mine who got the first 2010 issue early said that we are in this one too! lol. I renewed my membership for 2010, so hopefully my new issue arrives soon.

Can't wait for the next magazine issue. Just that cover looks like it'll keep me entertained for a while!

(It'd be nice to get that on time since I've STILL never received my membership card... my one D23 gripe!)

Just got the new spring issue today in the mail. It looks great with articles on a tribute to Roy, an interview with Helena Bonham Carter about Alice In Wonderland, and new articles about the Walt Disney Studios film lot and the new Fantasyland expansion at Walt Disney World.

I was also both really surprised and happy that they included Winnie from Hocus Pocus and the Rocketeer in the front cover collage for the 70 Years of Disney film.

Nope, sadly no news about Rapunzel.

Hey guys, what's up with the new spring issue? I can't find it anywhere on the site, even though it supposedly came out yesterday! I need to order it ASAP! They can't possibly have changed their policy about letting non-members buy the magazine, could they?

I hope it is available in Australia. The shipping cost is too expensive.

I really like the mag. I was wondering what would replace The E-Ticket when they shut down. Though I think their zine was more casual and had less "corporate spin" to it. But I think they're doing a great job with D23.

I don't really know why disneystore.com doesn't have it posted yet. However, they also don't have the Winter 2009 issue for sale to anyone, even members. Barnes & Noble and The Disney Store carry it though, so maybe try one of those if you need it right away.

I have question...

Im broke right now but plan to renew my subscription at the end of this month on the 25th when payday happens.....will I still get the spring issue or will I miss out??

I hope I don't miss out...because I really want that issue about the tribute to Roy...
