I don't know if anyone is interested, but the UK is getting a three disc Spider-Man Deluxe Edition released on May 24th.

I would expect the US to be getting this too.

I've never heard about this! And I don't even like Spider-Man. I'm usually on top of new DVD releases.

The U.S. is getting it, too. It hasn't been officially announced, yet, but it was mentioned in a Marvel press release a few weeks ago. I don't know how to feel about this, yet. I don't know if I should be happy Spider-Man will get a more in-depth and less promotional-oriented DVD than the previous one, ticked that I have to double dip, or satisfied enough with my current DVD to not upgrade. I guess I'll find out when the official press release comes out. Even if it contains much of the same features, I know one thing that WOULD sell it to me: a director's cut. Even if they don't include the theatrical cut on it I won't complain because the original DVD is not OOP and is widely available, therefore purists can hang on to that if the new DVD is extended.

One thing I'd be interested to see is if they include the pre-attack stuff in the extras; like the infamous Twin Towers teaser, where Spidey spun a web between the buildings to catch a bad guy's escaping helicopter. There were also a few posters that involved the towers somehow, which were recalled. Will Sony stop being a weenie about the issue and just include 'em? Or will they continue to pretend the towers never existed - because that's "PC", somehow?

I think it will probably be also like X-men and have info on Spiderman 2.

If the US release is indeed a 3-disc set I'll likely buy it (provided it has a new transfer). If it's a 2-disc set then I'm not sure. It'd have to depend on exactly what's on it. Hopefully there'll be a free ticket for Spidey 2.

I'll probably hold off until they sell it packaged with Spider-Man 2, like they did w/ X1.5 and X2, this past year... Although there will probably be the inevitable deluxe 9 disc trilogy set... perhaps I'll hold off for that  .

I won't be surprised if it is an extended edition of the movie.
Though I'm not Spider's biggest fan, I think the movie certainly deserves a better release than the one it got. Pretty weak, specially considering the blockbuster it was.

OK since I first posted this, there's been some speculation that this is infact just the normal 2 disc release plus the Stan Lee disc (just like was included in the R1 box).

I already have this, so looks like I may be disappointed.

One would hope so, as just over 1/2 hour of fluff featurettes barely justifies the inflated price tag on the SE.

From my understanding, the UK doesn't have this version:

http://www.atlanticdvd.com.au/view.cfm?id=4148

That was a 4-disc box, with the 2-disc SE; soundtrack and Stan Lee interview disc (with Kevin Smith). I didn't get it sadly, because I already had the interview disc and the soundtrack sucked.
Perhaps it will be an expanded version of this? However, the extra features indicate it will be more of a "Spidey 1.5" but without the sheer coolness of the X-Men 1.5.

Actually, those features may be new for the UK, but not for the U.S. Those featurettes are on the R1 DVD's disc one via a branching feature. Hopefully we'll get more in-depth stuff on this new DVD (shouldn't we be getting a press release by now? The thing comes out in 2 months!)

Yes DisneyKid, you may be right. I've never actually watched the branching segments. I just got carried away in the news story. But some of the run times seem to be different...

You are right - it is a 2-Disc. Here are the full details:

It looks really cool, even if you do have the first version.

I would buy it if they would ever release the "doesn't suck" version. :D Sadly, I don't think that this version exists.

Apart from the "action figures talk on a rooftop scene"; the baffling casting of Macy Gray; the crap soundtrack; the overt post-9/11 "New York is really great" hamfisted patriotism and the fiddling with comic book history, what did you find wrong with it? :P

I actually really enjoyed Spidey, because when all is said and done I have alway just loved the character. For all the faults, it is still a load of fun, and I can't wait to see Spidey face Doc Ock in the sequel.

Personally, I think the X-Men movies made for better adaptations, but they had the advantage of being a "team" story, so the focus didn't have to be on one person.

But being a comic book collector, I am notoriously hard to please :)
