Well, here's the trailer for the upcoming Special Edition release of James and the Giant Peach:

I uploaded this (in HD) for all those who have yet to see it and decided to start a topic for those who are anticipating it's release. Hopefully we'll get a press release soon, giving us a release date and list of extras.

It's about time! I've held off on buying the old release due to the non-anamorphic transfer. The HD trailer looked beautiful when I saw it for the first time last week. Really excited about this release!

Wow, way to ignore Henry Selick.

I absolutely adore this film. I like The Nightmare Before Christmas, but I find James and the Giant Peach to be a much stronger movie. It's criminal how neglected this film has been.

The DVD is okay. The galleries are nice, and it's good to have the trailer, music video, and EPK featurette for completeness' sake. I hope the Blu-ray ports all those over along with a new documentary, a Henry Selick (and Tim Burton?) commentary, and any deleted scenes that may exist.

The trailer, to me, anyway, looks gorgeous. People on various message boards have been saying they hope it's not indicative of the actual transfer because it needs a lot of work. Maybe I'd notice all the source flaws on my TV, but even watching that trailer fullscreen on my laptop brings an image that's a heck of a lot brighter and sharper than my DVD.

It's curious that this isn't coming out before Alice in Wonderland hits theaters so that they can add an exclusive sneak peek or something. Then again, Disney's home video marketing as of late has been slacking off (Dumbo, anyone?), so James could very well be coming before Alice. Let's see.

Honestly, I don't find it really fair myself.

I mean, sure, they credited Henry for his work on Coraline, even saying "From Henry Selick, the director of The Nightmare Before Christmas". But perhaps they're only promoting Tim because of the upcoming Alice in Wonderland movie.

This might be the only Disney film I truly hate, but being a completist, I'll get this on Blu since I never got it on standard.

Tim Burton's 9 was the worst blind buy I have ever bought to this day.....I felt like I was missing half the story to the whole movie...

To stay somewhat on topic....I can't wait to get this on Blu ray....I have the original dvd already but I'll get the Blu Ray anyway....I think this take on a Roald Dahl book is better than Tim's more recent film of the author Roald Dahl.. Charlien and the Chocolate Factory which I didn't really like....maybe it was too much attatchment to the classic....

anway the question is now...when will Disney Decide to announce a release date or are they going to play dance with the peach and keep us in suspense of a release date like they are doing with Fantasia, Dumbo, Black Cauldron, the list goes on etc etc

I just find the whole thing ugly and the characters and story unappealing and predictable.

I loved the book as a kid! However, I disliked the live-action book-ending of this film enough to get turned off entirely, even though I enjoyed most the character designs aside from James. It's one of the few Disney movies I only rented and never owned.

I would very much like to pic this up though and give it a fresh look now that it's getting a better presentation; I also imagine I'll appreciate it much more now that I'm older.

I saw this just last year on HBO in HD and didn't really like it as much as I did when I was a kid. One thing I always appreciated was the live action ending being filmed on Disney-MGM Studio's backlot, one of the VERY few films to be. I think I was even there when they were doing it and that made this film somewhat special to me (even if I never owned it).

So you know how it goes from live-action to claymation then back to live-action? Every time I watch it, I get so into the live-action I hate it when they transition into claymation. But then, I fall in love with the claymation and I hate it when it changes back to live-action again.

Anyhow, can't wait to get this on blu!

wait... so this obvious cash-in on Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is released on Blu-Ray... but the actual Alice in Wonderland animated feature just on dvd?

I can't keep up anymore with what's coming to what and what isn't. Disney needs to make up its mind. And fast.

I'm not getting this unless it's much, much better than the other one, which I already have.

I must say, I think that this movie is terribly underrated. You know, every time I watch it, I wonder how they pulled it off. They manage to fit in just about every type of animation you can think of in some form or another (puppet, cutout, computer, and handrawn at least.... I think), and I know I certainly wouldn't want to have been one of those animators! Can you imagine just how complex some of those armatures must have been? And it all comes off very well, not jerky at all!

Apparently the the BD will be a two-disc set (likely a DVD+BD combo). I guess that means there won't be a ton of features ala Nightmare Before Christmas. Still, as I said before, if it carries over the old DVD supplements and adds a commentary, new featurette, and any deleted scenes, I'll be satisfied.

Either way, Im buying it. Skipped the DVD and VHS.
