Okay, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's been a "saddest Disney moment" thread yet.

Anyways, I'll pretty much share mine.

1) Ray's death in The Princess and the Frog

2) Certain moments in Bolt

3) The ending for Pocahontas

4) Beast's "death" in Beauty and the Beast

5) Baby Mine from Dumbo

There was a poll from 2003, and even though more than half the people who posted in it haven't posted at all in the past few years, it's still a good read.

There was also a "Funniest/Saddest/Scariest/Favorite" thread from 2009, but it dealt with whole movies rather than individual moments.

Anyway, in the F/S/S/F thread, I said Old Yeller was the saddest Disney movie ever, but Dumbo has the saddest moment ("Baby Mine"). Reading some of the poll options from the 2003 thread, I also think that the entire beginning of Tarzan is quite sad, especially as it seems hopeful at first, but goes into a downward spiral in less than five minutes.

Nothing tops Mufasa's death for me. Johnathan Taylor Thomas really sold that scene with his voice alone.

Ditto. Hans Zimmer's score also adds to the powerful emotion of that scene. I will also throw in Jesse's song from Toy Story 2, Ray's death in The Princess and the Frog and the pound scene from Lady and the Tramp, but I don't think any Disney moment comes as powerfully sad to me as Mufasa's death.

When the boys realize they've been wasting their life surfing in "Meet the Deedles".

Even after all these years, the 'death scene' in Old Yeller still makes me get a lump in my throat. When Travis has to shoot the dog, that is probably the single most sad moment in Disney movie history. I know that it is probably my number one scene to remember and would Top any list of those types of scenes.

Another one is when Bobby Driscoll gets mauled by the bull in "Song of the South". That will bring a tear to anyone's eye, no matter how hard-hearted they are. Great scene.

How about the death scene in "Pollyanna"? That deserves some mention.

I don't think that animated death scenes are as emotional as live action ones, but there are some that have already been mentioned that do bring a lump to my throat.

No one has mentioned the death of Bambi's mother as one of their favorite scenes.

Just a few of my thoughts.

Fox and the Hound- When Widow Tweed drops Todd off at the reserve... I always tear up.

The Little Mermaid- Not so much sad, but very bittersweet. The "I love you, Daddy" line. Very sweet.

Mary Poppins- When I recently watched Mary Poppins, I noticed how sad Mary's departure is. The children have run off with their parents, completely forgotten Mary, and because the "wind has changed", she must leave. No matter how much she's grown to love the children, she's done her duty, set everything right, and all that's left is for her to leave.

The Princess and the Frog- The funeral was so sad, yet it showed Ray's death was just a beginning. Now he's with his Evangeline. That's how a death scene should be portrayed, in my opinion. Not just an ending, but also a beginning.

They actually SHOWED that?!

I'm only going to mention the animated moments that have made me tear up at least once in the past. Some of theses aren't necessarily sad:

- Dumbo: Baby mine scene

- Bambi: mother's death

- The Fox and the Hound: I used to beg my mom to fast-forward the "dropping off Todd" scene. I use to ball my eyes out. And I was a little kid, so I have no idea why since I wouldn't have understood it

- The Little Mermaid: like UmbrellaFish said, that "I love you daddy" line always gets to me.

- Lion King: Mufasa's death

- Tarzan: Not so much Tarzan's side, but when the baby gorilla gets chased and Kala can't go and try to save it.

- Lilo and Stitch: When Lilo is talking to Stitch about her parents...

- Last one and even though this isn't sad, it use dto make me cry for some odd reason. In Oliver and Company, when Jenny sings "Good Company". It's not sad at all, but the song used to make me cry lol.

...I mean I don't cry !!! I just got something in my eye...

Pocahontas: "If I Never Knew You;" The ending
The Hunchback of Notre Dame: Esmeralda kisses Phoebus; Quasimodo thinks that Esmeralda is dead
Tarzan: Jane and Professor Porter leaving for England ("But you love him.")
Lilo and Stitch: "Aloha Oe"
Brother Bear: Kenai admits to Koda that he's killed his mother
Bolt: Bolt and Penny almost dying in the fire ("You're my good boy....")
The Princess and the Frog: The death of Ray
Bedknobs and Broomsticks: "Nobody's Problems"
Pete's Dragon: "Candle on the Water"
Enchanted: "So Close;" Robert whispers to Gisell before kissing her ("Please don't leave me.")
Toy Story 2: "When She Loved Me"
WALL-E: EVE thinks that WALL-E's memory has been deleted
Up: "Married Life;" Carl looks through the Adventure Book; Carl gives Russel the Ellie Badge
Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure: Tinker Bell wastes her wish and cries for Terence

The death of Mufasa. Need I say more?

Married Life and Carl reading the Stuff I'm Going to Do Page near the end; Mufasa's Death; Triton destroying Ariel's stuff; Mulan and Company arriving at the deserted camp; WALL-E crushed and rebooted.

"The Rescuers - the orphanage scene between Rufus and Penny, Madame Medusa's scene with Penny leading into "Someone's Waiting for You".

"Pollyanna" - the entire ending...BAWL!...

"Old Yeller" - a total no-brainer...

Mufasa's death is intense.

Ray's death in P&F didn't affect me too much at first. It really hit me when they showed the second star in the sky next to Evangeline. I almost started bawling there.

That's about it really.

Oh God, it breaks me every time. I defy anyone to not want to scoop up Penny and tell her everything's going to be alright.

The ending of Pocahontas is undoubtly the saddest Disney moment ever. It's a overwhelmingly sad sequence.

Otherwise, I'll put Mufasa's death and Kerchak's death in "Tarzan" into my list. "Lilo & Stitch" had also many sad scenes.

It seems stupid, but every time I see the dwarfs cry over Snow White it gets to me. Even though I know she is going to wake up in a minute.

The farewel scene between Pocahontas and John Smith is also very sad, but I don't remember crying over it.

6. Hunchback, right after topsy turvy, first, he's crying of happiness and then he is humiliated. Gets to me.

Monsters, Inc. used to make me cry.

But I'll have to go with Bambi's mother as the saddest.
