Based on the success of the "Disney 2000 Decade Poll", I thought it would be a cool idea to do these polls for the different Disney decades. Vote for which film you liked the most from each decade and feel free to rank the others in order from most liked to most disliked.



Here's my ranking:

Nothing compares to Little Mermaid for me! This is the first Disney movie I watched and still one of my favourites! I admit that I don't like it as much as I did when I was younger (I wouldn't watch anything but Little Mermaid when I was younger), for example now I have to skip the whole Fathoms Below Scene since I can't stand it. But it still holds a very special place in my heart! I'll always love it! My friends laugh at me because when things get awkward I tend to start singing "Part of your world" (and on top of that my voice is really bad. When I turned thirteen I had to say goodbye to my singing voice as puberty wasn't very kind to me). I even converted my girlfriend (took a while! The whole four years I've been with her), as it's one of her favourite movies now!

I think somebody has gone Poll Crazy - no not that kind of Poll...whoever you are thinking the same joke as I please lets not go there.....

although wouldn't these lovely posts be better on a section of the forums called oh whats the name of that section....its sometimes fun like games too for polls

Actually Speaking of Polls....I need to register to vote to elect to try to elect the next crazy Govenor of IL......Im thinking....Dan Hynes but maybe I'll be spontiaous and put in the Governator....because I couldn't spell his last name with out a dictiornary let alone at the voting booth

I picked The Great Mouse Detective....because it came out in 1987....the same year as I did....(not sure if there is a pun there it may or may not be intended )

I have to say..... The Black Cauldron, because it's got something that I like about it, but I'm not sure what.

These are the ones I should love the best, perhaps, as they're from when I was very small, but they're also from that awkward period at Disney animation. I still love them all, but they weren't as close to perfect as other Disney animated features by any means, until, of course, Little Mermaid, which is definitely my pick here and one of my top fave Disney films. Great Mouse Detective and Oliver and Co. aren't far behind though. I love some of the characters in Black Cauldron far more than the film itself.

This decade is very easy for me! Little Mermaid is miles above the rest, which ranks from mildly entertaining to boring for me.

Black Cauldron-I like the characters even if the story isn't the strongest.

The Little Mermaid- Ariel is cool.

Great Mouse Detective- just awesome. I like the creepy toy scene the best

Fox and the Hound - alright. Nothing that wowed me.

Oliver and Co-haven't seen this awhile but I'm just not big fan of dog movies.

come to think of each this decade is quite diverse! there's a detective movie, fairy tale, fantasy,drama and modern contemporary movie!

TLM is great! Now, I don't like it as much as some of the other 90s musicals, but it's the best film of the 80s! (Although, I prefer to group it with the rest of the Renaissance, so it's kind of the "odd man out" in the 80s).

Anyway, as far as "typical 80s fare" goes... TBC is definitely my favorite. It has no songs, which is a downside. And the animation is certainly not perfect. But I really like the story and characters, and I appreciate it for its darker tone. It's something I wish Disney would do more often! I just really, really wish that Orddu, Orwen, and Orgoch would get more screentime! I just love those witches!

The Fox and the Hound is really stirring, and there are a few parts which, depending on the mood, make me start to tear up. But I detest Dinky and Boomer. They automatically make the movie feel weaker to me.

Oliver's really cool, especially how it's been adapted to a more modern, urban setting. But it just doesn't affect me that much. It's one of those movies that I sort of have to be in the mood for. Although I do like most of the characters.

And, for me, Great Mouse Detective is at the bottom of the list. It was clever, and it is a fun movie! But... I don't know, it just seems a little bland in some scenes. Not too much, and I really do enjoy it. Just not as much as the others.

The Little Mermaid was pretty obvious.

The Black Cauldron is very underrated. I like all the characters and I do like its different look. The animation was great for before The Little Mermaid and of course it has the most underrated villain of all time.

Oliver & Company is something I liked from when I was a kid.

The Fox and the Hound has a few good scenes. I used to own a 17 year old black German Shepard named Chief.

The Great Mouse Detective is on the bottom because I haven't seen it yet.

It's hard for me to pick a favorite. TLM is my favorite, but it 'feels' like a 1990's film, as it belongs with BatB and Aladdin. As a 24 year old man, I still enjoy this film. I can watch it a hundred times and not get bored. I just feel the emotions in this films are so real and sincere, it always touches me. And the music ad voice cast has never been matched. (Maybe the mucis in Hunchback...) Although it has its flaws, like the 9 different Ariels I keep seeing. Later, post-Lion King films don't have those horrible off-model characters.

Still, it doesn't feel like a "real" 1980's film, and I don't want to slam the already underrated films of this period any further by picking TLM, and that's why I went for my absolute no.1 1980's film, The Great Mouse Detective. I've enjoyed this film ever since I was a little kid. I think the reason it works is because it breaks with the traditional Disney-formula of a romantic story, and it doesn't have a main character that's easy to like. Basil has to grow on you during the course of the film. Now that's real character development. I also adore Henri Mancini's musical score. How this film didn't get a proper DVD treatment is beyond me.

Edit: oh, I also have to give proper credit to the DUTCH voice cast for this film. Most of the time, the original, English version is far superior to the dubbed version, but in this case, I really prefer the Dutch version with veteran voice-actor Paul van Gorcum as Basil.

I disagree. Most people don't look there, and there's almost no discussion going on there.

Go see it now! You won't be disappointed! One of Disney's funniest, with great characters and catchy music. Sadly underrated.
