This was really hard. I went through my DVD collection to check all the movies I own from 2000-2009, then narrowed it down to 5 films from each year, before finally picking the 25. Took me long enough! I initially tried to include more genres than romcoms, dramas, and the occasional sci-fi/superhero flick, but I couldn't do it.

Jeez, I'd need a full list of all the movies from 2000 to now in order to do this justice. I will say that I LOVED the PIXAR movies except Cars, which was great but not up to par for PIXAR. LOVED Enchanted and franchises like Harry Potter, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Pirates of the Caribbean. Loved Star Trek and King Kong, loved the 4th Indy film, despite some issues, loved Elf, Lilo and Stitch, The Producers, Phantom of the Opera, and Emperor's New Groove, lots of Superhero movies, and probably a lot of other stuff, but like I say, I'd need a list to pick from.

I find the Wikipedia lists by year helpful for remembering which movies I saw from a given year, as they generally list the movies by release date when you scroll down, such as:

Ghost World is still, by far, the best movie I've seen from this decade.

Ginger Snaps, 28 Days Later, Open Water and Suicide Circle were clearly the best horror films.

Meet the Parents was the best "dumb" or gross-out comedy. Miss Congeniality was my favorite mainstream comedy.

Wonder Boys was the best drama.

Erin Brokavich was the best issue movie. Bowling for Columbine was the best documentary (because I haven't seen Sicko).

Memento was the best thriller.

Psycho Beach Party was the best exploitation / retro camp film.

Donnie Darko was the best fantasy film.

Kissing Jessica Stein was the best romantic movie.

That's at least half of what I need.

It's usually skewed more towards US films than foreign films, at least in the wide-release calendar. I think wikipedia also offers pages like "List of 2005 films from (insert country)", though I'm not entirely sure.

If 2000 = the beginning of the decade, than wouldn't 2000-2009 = The complete decade....? Or am I and the rest of the country just stupid?

2000 is not the beginning of the decade, it's the last year of the decade previous. It's like saying 0 to 9 equals 10. It's a period of ten years, yes, but it's not the end of this decade. Just like 2000 was not the beginning of a new millennium, just the last year of second one.

Wow, PixarFan, it's like you looked into my crystal ball and started the thread I was going to. I've actually been working on an alphabetical list of 100 from the first ten years of '00s. I'm almost halfway done with it and maybe I'll post it here when I'm done. I feel especially qualified to weigh in because I don't think it's any exaggeration to say that I've seen well over 1,000 theatrically-released films from this decade. Not that that's a huge accomplishment compared to some, but it's far more than I can say I've seen from any other decade (although I'm tempted to come up with a hundred from those I'm less familiar with).

Speaking of which, Google dictionary defines decade:

A decade is a period of ten years, especially one that begins with a year ending in 0, for example 1980 to 1989.

So, assuming there was no Year 0, the first decade on record comes up a year short, but I don't think that's a big enough deal to not be logical and count 0-9 moving forward.
