Go check it out...I'm personally miffed Rescuers Down Under is so low, but no one can argue with the choice for #1.

I CAN. Pinocchio is a great movie and visually stunning but the story isnt tight...it drags along in places. With some editing I could see this movie making the top 5 but in its current state it should only land towards the lower numbers of the top 10.

I cant believe The Little Mermaid didnt make the top 10. That right there pretty much makes this list irrelevant IMO.

whoah. most of the top films were the ones in the platinum line. I hope more rankings like this could convince Disney that Aladdin still deserves a slot in the Diamond line, as it still gets to the top of the critics' lists.. *seems like I am the only one hopeful *

I'd put "Tarzan," "Lion King," "Cinderella," "Jungle Book," and "Bueaty and the Beast" ahead of "Pinocchio."

Truth is these list are always silly. It comes down to tastes and opinions, which go person to person. Besides, how can you really pick THE BEST Disney Animated film anyway? It's like picking THE BEST child from your children, can't be done!

Intresting that they put The Black Cauldron ahead of Oliver and Company. I'm especially surprised that they put The Fox and the Hound and The Aristocats ahead of Pocahontas. Then again, everyone has their own opinion and taste, whether they be critics or normal people.

You really think so? I dunno, I don't think there's a single wasted frame in that movie. Seems pretty tight to me. And those visuals are glorious and the animation and art direction are pretty much the greatest of any animated I've seen.

Then again, I'm an idiot.

I'm just glad BatB and TLK weren't anywhere near the top, that the Three Callebaros wasn't anywhere near the bottom and that Dumbo did pretty damn well.

I'm miffed that Cinderella never fails to second Sleeping Beauty though, and that Bolt was so highly acclaimed whereas MtR isn't

You took the words right out of my mouth. This list is crap.

Though the list is horrible, I'm very happy to see Fantasia in the number 3 spot. And Fantasia 2000 wasn't that far behind. At least they got one thing right--kind of. It should be first, but, whatever...

The list was okay except with a few exceptions. I hate Pinocchio! Okay hate is a strong word but...I know I'm probably the minority in this, but it's my opinion. And before anyone says something like I just don't like the real classics, I do. I love Dumbo, Bambi and Snow White. They are among my favourites! I just find Pinocchio very annoying... There are scenes that are really charming, but other than that, meh. Sorry to those who love the movie. Don't mean to get you mad. And I'm so surprised Little Mermaid wasn't in the top ten! And that Pocahontas was ranked so low on the list (or high if you prefer). I love that movie despite it's sad ending. But I do guess it's all personal opinion! Wow I really need to watch Fantasia! I've watched every Disney Animated Feature except that and Fantasia 2000...some disney fan I am .

I've gotta agree with Milojthatch. It is an awful lot like trying to pick your favorite child from all your children.
As much as I love "Pinocchio," and it might just be among the most stunning films visually, the near constant use of deus ex machina makes the story a little clunky at places, in my opinion. It deserves a high spot, but not neccesarily #1.

Well it's like what people have said before on other posts...these are just what critics say. It's true it's much harder for fans to rate them, but this is what critics say and not necessarily true. Critics don't have the same appreciation for Disney movies as fans do

Why is "Fun and Fancy Free" on the botton of the list? Personally I like it a great deal better than "Three caballeros". On the whole I found the first-mentioned movie entertaining (especially the Mickey and the Beanstalk -part) and the second largely a bore.

I also like to comment on the critic's consensus about Pocahontas lacking humor and thus seen as a dissapointment. I say: lack of humor doesn't necessary make a film bad: sometimes it's better not to shoehorn to much -forced- humor into a serious tale. Or is it just that we always expect (much) humor from Disney? (they did not even mention another plus from the movie: the music)

In fact, on many Disney movies there is no critic's consensus at all. The same movie that is adored by one critic is loathed by another. So how did Rotten Tomatoes reach this 'consensus'?

I don't think it's really the lack of humor critics complained about, it's rather the general dullness of the movie. It's like someone sucked out the whole fun out of the movie (and I don't mean fun in the "ha-ha-ha" way) and replaced it with flat-out monotony. So in that regard I agree with RT critics - "Pocahontas" isn't as great as people would like it to be and it's probably the worst of Disney's '90s output. It takes itself too seriously and it's too pretentious for its own good. What puzzles me is that even Disney likes to overlook the facts and put blame for their downfall in the early '00s upon "Hercules" and "Hunchback", two flawed but far superior movies to "Pocahontas" (see documentaries on "Little Mermaid" DVD - "Pocahontas" is hailed as part of the Renaissance/Fab Five and "Herc" and HOND get the shaft, as do "Mulan" and "Tarzan").

Just my opinion .

As for the other titles on the list, I'm somewhat surprised to see "Brother Bear" rated lower than "Home on the Range".

I'm not really surprised: There is more entertainment in Home on the Range than in Brother Bear, which starts out promising but becomes quite dull and dragging in the middle. I think the 'dull' Pocahontas tops this movie easily!

As you might have noticed there IS no real consensus on a movie like Pocahontas: Pater Stack loved it, as did Richard Corliss and James Beraldinelli (sp?) who gave it 4 stars. Another one, Christopher Null, deplored it. But it's just their opinion, of course.

By the way: I'm very fond of the movies HoND, Mulan and Tarzan I don't think of them as less good than the "Fab four".

I actually don't mind that Pinocchio made number 1, since it's arguably the best Disney's done. Much more deserving than Snow White or The Lion King. I think the only points that make this list less credible are: Bolt being so high (which is even more insulting because Meet the Robinsons is so low) and Sleeping Beauty in the top ten (what?!).

It was a pretty fair list and I was happy to see some of my favorite DACs (such as 101 Dalmatians) listed high, but I would have put SWATSD at #1 since, without it, none of the other DACs would have existed.

Of course Rescuers Down Under is so low. It's a lousy movie! It doesn't even deserve to be in the DAC canon! I am saddened with the low positions of The Great Mouse Detective and Oliver & Company. However, I'm very pleased with the high place The Rescuers got.

But why is BOLT on no. 14????!

Pinocchio is a good pick for no. 1. Either that one, or Snow White.
