Disney sweatshop labour

I would hope you are right, but who knows? Certainly it can be said that you can't be held responsible for what you don't know about.goofystitch wrote:The video is sad, but if you pay attention they mention that when people visit the factory, management covers up all of the wrongdoings. So when a Disney executive visits, they are lied to. Disney isn't intentionally using child labor to make their products. And I would venture to guess that Disney executives have seen this video and stopped doing business with that publisher or gone in to ensure that manufacturing becomes ethical.
Hahahaha! Dream on! Come on, Disney can choose any manufacturer they want to make their merchandise! They intentionally go to China and Thailand and such places, where child and slave labor is common practice. They don't care. Disney is an evil company, remember that.goofystitch wrote:The video is sad, but if you pay attention they mention that when people visit the factory, management covers up all of the wrongdoings. That is not true! They DO care and they're not evil! Man, I'm sick and tired of people looking for ways to insult Disney for no reason and make up stupid lies just to make them look bad! It's all out of control!Goliath wrote:They don't care. Disney is an evil company, remember that.
I hope you forgot a sarcasm-smiley, otherwise you come off as very uninformed.WDWLocal wrote:That is not true! They DO care and they're not evil! Most Western corporations pay less than the legal minimum wage in 'developing' countries. Also, often employees are forced to work overtime without getting paid. They often work in very unsafe environments.Flanger-Hanger wrote:Never mind the kids, I doubt the adults are paid much either but that's because the cost of living is less in that country.
Very true and anyone who doubts this should really see certain documentaries on the country such as the recent excellently made one by CBC.Goliath wrote:Most Western corporations pay less than the legal minimum wage in 'developing' countries. Is tat one available online (maybe YouTube)? What's its title? I'd like to see it. For others, I recommend the 'Black Book on Brand Companies' by the German journalists Klaus Werner and Hans Weiss, which also says a lot about the Disney Corporation's unethical business practices.Flanger-Hanger wrote:Very true and anyone who doubts this should really see certain documentaries on the country such as the recent excellently made one by CBC.
Off the top of my head I don't know the name, but I'm sure it's just a Google search away. It's really just about everything 21st century China. Political, cultural etc, really a great watch but I forgets the name!Goliath wrote:Is that one available online (maybe YouTube)? What's its title? I'd like to see it.

I'm glad you have a social consciense where corporations are concerned. Most people in our society don't seem to have that. Have you ever considered, though, that perhaps boycotting products produced by sweatshop labor hurts the workers making them? After all, it may mean they make even less money then they otherwise would (since the company has less money to give them) and could lead to some of them losing those jobs, particularly if the boycott becomes widespread, and they must be pretty desperate already if they've chosen to work in such places.Goliath wrote:That's the reason I don't collect any of the Disney 'merchandise', like pluche dolls, plastic figures, T-shirts etc. I already feel uncomfortable knowing that with every Disney comic and dvd I buy, the money goes to "the evil company".
