Hi, this my first fourm post. Just one question; Why is that Pixar characters – who are owned by Disney but not invented by them – are usually counted on lists of Disney characters while Power Rangers characters – who are also owned by Disney but not invented by them– are usually NOT counted as Disney characters? Anyone know?

Pixar has always been closely associated with Disney ever since Toy Story and many people saw them as one and the same even before Disney bought them. "Power Ranger" was already an established franchise before Disney acquired it.

Plus, I'm sure most Disney fans would rather include a Pixar character on a "Disney" list than a Power Rangers character.

The fact that Disney owns the Power Rangers bothers me so! Heck, the fact that the Power Rangers are still around bothers me so!

i'm with you both. i may have seen the original power rangers back when they originally airing but there is no way i would watch that now. i also hate the fact that disney owns them as well. pixar on the other hand i love and like escapay said they have always been close to disney. i for one will never consider the power rangers as part of disney. i'm also having trouble that the muppets and marvel are part of disney but for different reasons.

I saw the Power Rangers at Disney World when I went in 2005. So they're not completely off the record...

I'm actually a little more ok with Disney owning the Muppets. I feel that one works better. Henson and Disney are kindred spirts for sure so it is not such a stretch to mix there properties.

As for Marvel, I'm ok with that as well so long as they don't cross pollinate too much. As a huge fan of both, I just want them to be at there best. It makes some sense to me as well being as Disney's biggest rival arguably in Hollywood is the WB, who owns Marvel's biggest rival, DC Comics. So it makes sense if you see it that way I guess.

If it leads to a stronger Marvel empire and one where ALL the films are in one universe and we finally get all the old Marvel cartoons on DVD, I'm happy!

well the only reason why i have trouble counting them is not because i hate them it's just that i am used them being different entities altogether. i love both the muppets and marvel, especially marvel. but with the way you explained it it does make more sense.

power rangers are awesome, well depending on the season that is. There are some real stinkers, but this season RPM has been the best in a long time. But you might take comfort in the fact that thus the last season. It's pretty much canceled now. It'll be back in Jan, but only in the form of reruns of Mighty Morphin. Which I'm really excited about because their remastering them, but it's not a new season, and it doesn't look like there's going to be any more.

That said I dont expect Disney to treat them like Disney characters, they hate the franchise now, throwing bones to fans only every once in a while when it's convienent and cheap. They won't even air the show on XD, a channal that targets the same demo.

In my book Disney and Pixar are separate things. So it bothers me when it is listed as on of the same.

Just out of curiosity, how old where you when Power Rangers started?

Let's put it this way: Disney owns Marvel now. Do you now think of Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron Man, X-Men, and the Punisher as Disney characters?

Hmm, 7 maybe? I dunno, Im 21 ( born Jan 88 ) , Power Rangers debuted in 93, you can do the math if you want.

That explains everything then! It was the thing when you were the right age. I understand, I'm 26, so just a few year a head of you and I have found memories of the Ninja Turtles, which was right before Power Rangers.

No, I can't. But I have a hard time thinking of Batman or Superman as Warner Bros. Characters and they have been for a while now.

Again, as long as Disney gets out of there way, this could be a really good thing. If they micromanage, Marvel is screwed!

I HATE Power Rangers. Its NOT Disney. Mickey, Minnie, Woody, Buzz, Nemo, Sully and Mike, Boo, Lightning McQueen..........these are DISNEY characters.

It's true, you look at the history, it's been most of the same players going back and forth between the studios. Big reason why I would have been really sad had Pixar gone over to a different studio. They need each other.

Well I was into turtles too myself, right before Power Rangers. I still am to a much less extent.

I really think some of you guys should give some of the better seasons a chance though. RPM is surprisingly smart. In fact the first ep doesn't even feel like power rangers until maybe the very end. The producer this season was writing this show as if it were Terminator: the Sarah Conner Chronicles for kids. Whats also great about this season is that it pokes fun at itself a lot. It makes the cheesyness easier to accept. for example, the characters question why they need to shout out things before morphing or during battle, or why their Zords have giant googly eyes. Whats better is that they actually have logical explanations for all of these ranger cliche's.

I think too many people make snap judments based on the earlier seasons. The show used to be very much the same thing every ep, the order never mattered. These days there are season long arcs.

Also, the purchase was done through an all stock transaction, meaning the two had seperate stock untill Disney bought Pixar. Seems like they were once seperate entities to me. Here's how I see it...

When Disney agreed to distribute the first Pixar films they gained the rights to everything. The characters, the story, the music, the likeness, the merchandising, EVERYTHING. While Pixar still got credit for their creation Disney became the sole owner of their franchises, therefore giving them the right to claim that the Pixar characters are their own.
