“A prince named Naveen from the land of Maldonia,is transformed into a frog by the evil scheming voodoo magician Dr. Facilier. The frog prince asks a waitress named Tiana to break the spell by kissing him. However, the kiss doesn't break the spell but rather makes Tiana a frog, as well. Together the two of them must reach the good voodoo priestess of the Bayou, Mama Odie, while befriending a trumpet-playing alligator and a hopelessly romantic firefly along the way”.

I voted for Tiana, just because I think she's a pretty cool character, and I'm interested to see how her character grows. However, I was pretty tempted to vote for Faciler. I'm a sucker for villains, and he seems like a pretty good, or... I guess I should say "bad" one. He looks like Cruella and Captain Hook had a baby... except that he's black of course. And he also reminds me a little of Ursula in his plan of attack, and Jafar in his suavity. It's a very interesting combination!

Do I really have only one choice?
Well, okay. To be honest, my top five faves- in no specific order- are Tiana, Naveen, Louis, Ray and Dr. Faciller.
But I picked Louis, b/c I'm sure no one actually has yet.
Anyways, which movie do you guys think stands a better chance on opening day: The Princess and the Frog, or The Lovely Bones? Heck, I'm actually rooting for PatF

One more thing on the Box Office discussion. It's interesting to keep in mind Disney has already sold $2.8 million worth of tickets for the advanced screenings in NY and LA. Sure these tickets range from $30 to $50 but that is still impressive and it looks like it will rival the advanced screening attendance of The Lion King.
$200 million isn't unthinkable. 2009 has been an amazing year for film. Recession has that effect on the movie-going business. And it's familiarity that has triumphed. Franchise reboot is the hot, new keyword among Hollywood executives. And if done right, it will lead to success. Star Trek is fine example of that. Essentially, The Princess and the Frog does exactly what Star Trek did: revitalizing a dead franchise with a combination of old themes and fresh new energy.
I think there is definitely strong demand for classic entertainment. Especially over the holiday period.

I agree. I can't decide who my favorite character it until I watch the entire movie. I usually love each character for their own personality and what they bring to the movie itself. In past films my favorite characters vary from the main leading lady to the funny, offbeat sidekick...so who knows which it will be in this one!

I can't say who's my favorite character yet. I have to watch the movie in order to really know for sure!
I think Dr. Facilier is going to be a great villain. He reminds me a lot of Jafar for some strange reason. He's tall, lanky, and thin. He has a simliar toothy grin, and he appears to be sly and sneaky. He probably runs his black voodoo magic business like Ursula, as far as tricking people into a bargain and scaming them. I'm really not sure how he can act like Cruella though. I tend to be a sucker for villains too, but I still root for the hero.
Mama Odie looks like an intresting guardian, and I'm curious to see Ray and Louis in action. It looks like they'll be the traditional humorous sidekicks common in a lot of Disney films. But I'm sure all of them have their own little charm. I'm trying not to dig too deep into the movie's information since I want to know everything when I watch the actual movie, but I like what I'm seeing.
Hopefully I'll like all of them. I'm hoping Louis will be good since I like alligators.

I believe the resemblance to Cruella is more physical than in manner or actions. As I said, he looks like what would happen if Captain Hook and Cruella DeVil could have a black child.IagoZazu wrote:I'm really not sure how he can act like Cruella though.

He also reminds me of Jafar and Hades, more so due to design and mannerisms.Margos wrote:I believe the resemblance to Cruella is more physical than in manner or actions. Yeah, I think he's supposed to be Jafar physically and Hades mentally. He'll probably be more wily compared to calm and cool Jafar.Siren wrote:He also reminds me of Jafar and Hades, more so due to design and mannerisms.Margos wrote: I believe the resemblance to Cruella is more physical than in manner or actions. Both Cruella De Vil and Jafar were exaggerated in their animations. Jafar has his big, elastic jaw and Cruella has her flamboyant clothing and crazy facial features. She's also more bony and frail looking.
I can see how Dr. Facilier can act like Hades or Captain Hook in behavior. Hook and Hades were usually comical at times, but they had their serious moments as well. I don't think Dr. Facilier will be very comical though. I think he'll actually be pretty dark.

Just to add to this discussion, the animator for Dr. Facilier stated that he was, indeed, what he imagined a cross between Cruella and Hook would be if they had a kid He drew a lot of inspiration from those two characters when designing Dr. Facilier.IagoZazu wrote:Yeah, I think he's supposed to be Jafar physically and Hades mentally. I was just cruising around the Internet Movie Database to see when The Lion King opened for its limited release. And while I was there, I decided to check on the details of The Princess and the Frog.
And I was surprised to find that Eudora- Tiana's mother- is voiced by both Oprah Winfrey AND Angela Bassett. What?? That doesn't make any sense!

Regarding the poll question, my two favorite characters are Naveen and Tiana, simply because they are a fun, slightly dysfunctional couple. Naveen's too lax and spoiled, while Tiana is uptight and a workaholic. It's such a fun thing. Why do you think I currently have them as both my sig and icon?
As for the box office success, I think it will do very well. I can't say if it will break box office records, but Disney chose the right time to show this film. It starts near the beginning of December, a few weeks before Christmas. Kids will want to see this movie, and adults will go in for the nostalgic animated value. Once they go out, children will love it and ask for everything Princess and the Frog for Christmas. Then the families will go see it again and again because the kids love the new film.

At the moment, the only character I'm really liking is Mama Odie. I'm still undecided on Tiana and Facilier, they could really go either way at this point. "Big Daddy" and Charlotte look to be entertaining, particularly because of John Goodman. Naveen, Ray and Louis are kind of bleh to me right now--they aren't necessarily bad characters, but they don't stand out to me.
