Okay... Halloween is done and over with, and November has come rolling in. That said... when does everyone start playing their Christmas music!!?

I'm undecided as to whether or not I want to start playing mine today. What's everyone else's plans?

I usually wait until the week of Thanksgiving to play Christmas music.

Yeah, I usually wait til Thanksgiving. The only real Christmas song I keep on my ipod all year round is Mariah Carey's "Jesus O What A Wonderful Child"

and I'm pretty sure I'll only be pulling out Mariah and Kristin Chenoweth's xmas albums out this year.

Forget Thanksgiving, Christmas music NOW!

I was torn between this too! I mean, I know lots of people start playing the Christmas music on November 1st, some wait until the middle of the month, and others wait until Thanksgiving.

I don't really see any harm in starting to play Christmas music now, but I'll probably wait for a few reasons. It's only the first of the month, and while the Christmas decorations are in stores already, there's nothing really Christmas-themed on TV, in theaters, or on the radio just yet, so right now we're in what I call this really weird "transitional" period between Halloween and Thanksgiving. I figure around November 15th some radio stations will have already started to play some Christmas music mixed in with regular music (which is what one local radio station in my area does), and by Thanksgiving it will be full-out Christmas music to the max.

Another reason I'm not going to start listening now is because I just don't want things to get overplayed. I have tons of Christmas CDs but there's only a select few I listen to, as they've become sort of a tradition with me and I find myself going back to those few albums throughout the holiday season, and I'm afraid if I start listening now, some of my favorites will get overplayed and they'll lose their "special-ness". On the other hand, I'm always sad on December 26th when Christmas is over and I have to go back to listening to regular music. So perhaps I'll mix in a little bit of Christmas music with my regular music, but I'll wait a few weeks before I go all Christmas.

I started as soon as I got home last night after celebrating Halloween (around 2 a.m.)

Normally I wait until Thanksgiving week to start playing Christmas music, but the past few years, our local radio stations would start the Christmas music earlier and earlier that now November 1 seems to be the unofficial beginning of the ad nauseum overplay of the likes of Perry Como and Mariah Carey

I won't play any christmas music until after December 5, because at that day it's St- Nicholas birthday(Sinterklaas) and we celebrate that in Holland. I know "Santa" is just a bastardisation of St Nicholas

Anyway, I like to play the Christmas oratoria from J.S. Bach round christmas-time.

I have indeed started playing Christmas music as early as November 1st. I put alot of effort into my Christmas playlist (a day long) and I should enjoy it! But I'd never start before hand as Halloween should get top priority and this year I may wait a few days as I still have somewhat of a Halloween hangover.

i don't really play christmas music because I do have to hear it all the time. The only exceptions are Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas album, but I would listen to that any time of the year because I love it! Also the song "Carol of the Bells", I don't really get enough of it! It's my favorite Christmas song!!!!!!

I save the Christmas music until December.... It's too easy to get beaten over the head with it then, and it makes it slightly less annoying if I haven't been listening to it a whole month beforehand.

Christmas music and decorating begin the day after Halloween. Thanksgiving is just kind of a prelude to Christmas for me.

I agree, it's the same for me. Thanksgiving has always felt like a pre-Christmas celebration and I love it! Family and friends are together, plus the Christmas music is already being played by then, and most of the Christmas decorations have been put up by then, so it's almost like a Christmas warm-up or practice.

For me, Halloween isn't over until my pumpkins have to be thrown out, which usually is two days after, ha. Though, I took down the outside decorations already, which is fast for me, ha.

I don't usually start with Christmas full blast till after THanksgiving, but this year, Thanksgiving may be on the road and even at a restaurant, a first for us and I'm not thrilled about it, but we have to help my little sister move. So, I might not make such a big deal out of THanksgiving this year and may be in mind for CHristmas a lot earlier, if I am able to feel CHristmassy at all.

As for the music, my faves nowadays are my Harry Connick Jr. Christmas CDs and the Elf and Grinch soundtracks, and the Brian Setzer stuff. I need to get a CD with the Charlie Brown Christmas music though. I LOVE that. Can anyone recommend the best one to get for that? I grew up listening to some great records of Christmas music though, and maybe this year I'll throw them on again and find out if any have CD releases. They're probably pretty dated, vinyl stuff though.

Because that's when I usually decide I'm done with Christmas-sy things and take down my decorations, Rynana.

I was going to wait till after Thanksgiving, but a radio station I listen to started playing Christmas Music on Halloween, so I guess I had no choice but to start on the 31st of October.

I LOVE Christmas Music and have actually been listening to quite a bit of it lately because im making a mix CD of my all time favorites. I tend to like older school versions of Christmas songs. Doris Day, Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme, Johnny Mathis, Julie Andrews etc etc.

Love Dolly Parton but her Christmas Album isnt the best EXCEPT "With Bells On". LOVE that song. lol Burl Ive's Holly Jolly Christmas is another staple and dont forget Brenda Lees Rockin Around the Christmas tree. Also while growing up my parents had Barbara Mandrelles Chrismtas album and so its just not Christmas without that!

Older renditions are my all time favorite but Mariah Carey and Celine Dion have the best modern albums IMO. I also enjoy holiday Piano or relaxing instrumental music. Music Box Christmas Album is also a favorite.
