I just checked the Disney Movie Club Exclusives site and it shows both Tonka and Ten Who Dared as now being available on DVD.

Let's hope this means The Light in the Forest is not far behind!

Leonard Maltin considers 10 Who Dared to be the worst live action film ever produced by Walt Disney. What did he call it? "Rock-bottom Disney"?

As such, I am, of course, eager to see it.

OK, maybe it isn´t very good, but SO bad it is not. It has its own charm in a way. I like it.

So what is the worst Walt Disney live action film if not Ten Who Dared?

According to this website (UD) (which hasn't reviewed Ten Who Dared), it's The Boatniks.

There are certainly far better Walt Disney films that remain unreleased on DVD - - like "Sammy the Way Out Seal" with Robert Culp and Billy Mumy -- "Escapade in Florence" and "The Horsemasters" with Annette and Tommy Kirk -- "The Prince and the Pauper" with Guy Williams -- "The Light in the Forest" with James MacArthur -- "The Sword and the Rose" with Richard Todd -- etc.

But at least they are still releasing library product, so there's always hope.

I'm looking forward to a possible Cinemascope transfer of "Westward Ho the Wagons!". "Scandalous John" was given in it's widescreen format, and I think it would attract a LOT of attention if this Disney favorite starring Fess Parker and some of the Mousketeers was given its first ever widescreen presentation on DVD showcasing the Cinemascope process that Disney helped pioneer in the 1950s.

FYI: I posted in the sticky post on top of this forum that both "Ten Who Dared' and "Tonka" are regretfully fullscreen transfers with lackluster video quality. At least they're on DVD, though........

Ten Who Dared isn't a masterpiece, but it does have several things that I like about it.

• I believe it's Brian Keith's first Disney film. Just a year later he would be making The Parent Trap.
  
  Ben Johnson would later become an Oscar winner.
  
  One of the 10 - the English David Frankham - was also recording the voice of Sgt. Tibbs in 101 Dalmatians during the making of the movie.
  
  It was directed by William Beaudine of Spin and Marty fame, and even has a small appearance by the actor who played Mr. Logan in that serial, not to mention Stan Jones is also in it and Marty himself, Disney Legend David Stollery.
  
  There's a lot of good location work, which was a treat since Disney did a lot of its films on the lot.
  
  James Drury was also in Pollyanna the same year as Nancy Olson's boyfriend.
  
  L.Q. Jones is always interesting.
  
  It's a true story. The plaque at the end of the movie can still be seen at the Grand Canyon.
  
  It's better than a lot of the dusty old educational films they sell on DVD at the Grand Canyon, so if Disney were smart, they'd make copies available to sell at the gift shops there.
  
  So, if given a choice, I would watch this one over a few others I can think of, including One of My Dinosaurs is Missing!

Light in the Forest is available on DVD from Disney Educational Productions.

Yes, but it's $29.95 and that's the sale price and it comes with educational tools for the classroom, things we as casual consumers don't want or need. It should be released as a DMC Exclusive for the fans. Disney's educational products were meant for the classroom, not home entertainment. And they have released classroom versions of films that are available to the general public, so they should do it with The Light in the Forrest.

All I got was the movie, no "educational materials". A DMC exclusive would be the same thing, different cover. Just thought I'd mention where to get it, since DEP is off the beaten path for most people. They also have Justin Morgan Had a Horse. As for the price, can't argue there...but I'm seeing Tonka and Ten Who Dared regularly sell for near $40 on eBay, so $29.95 isn't too much of a stretch if you really want to see the films.

But as a DMC member, I'm used to paying less than $15 for each DMC Exclusive, which is less than half the price of the educational version of Light in the Forrest.

"Escapade in Florence" on used VHS is going for $79 - $200 at Amazon - -Disney should track what is reselling at obscene prices to figure out what should be on DVD next...

Does the DVD of "Ten Who Dared" have the Buena Vista opening logo before the film? Because I don't think it appears on the 1986 VHS.
