I don't quite know what to say. Where do these people have to go, if this guy isn't dismissed from serving or replaced or his decision overturned, to get married? Does anyone know what happens to the couple? Do they have to pay to be recognized as husband and wife in 2 places if they have to go somewhere else to get married?

I don't know what to say, either. I mean, does this minister not even know that the current President of the United States is the product of a inter-racial couple?

That is outrageous- it's really making me mad. I hope that that justice gets his marriage-giving priveliges (sp?) taken away from him. That is so prejudiced. I hope the couple have no problems finding another justice to marry them.

What the hell was this guy thinking. Whether he had racist motivations or was really concerned for there children, we don't know, but who someone marries should be none of his concern as long as they're doing everything legally. Love is blind and government interfering with someone's right to choose who they love is abusing power.
Quite frankly, there is so many other children out there to worry about, living with unfit or abusive parents or not properly being taken care of due to lack of income, that a child's race should be the last of his concerns.

What does him knowing the ethnicity of the president have to do with his obvious abuse of power? BTW, if you read the article you would find out that this is not a minister but a justice of the peace, which makes his actions all the more despicable since he's an elected official that is speaking on behalf of the government. I say, "time to retire!"
I think the interracial relationship in The Princess and the Frog, which also takes place in New Orleans, is very welcome at times like these.

I'm still trying to figure out why the headline is in Engrish!
"Many angry man wouldn't marry interracial couple"
Were there several angry men who all refused to marry the couple?
Was it just one man, who was "many angry?" HULK MANY ANGRY, SMASH NOW!
Maybe (after reading the article,) it was supposed to be something like "Many people angry that man wouldn't marry interracial couple"

It's Louisiana. I'm not surprise by this action. Racism will always remain in the damn south.

I added a comma, now it looks like a headline instead of a Hulk catchphrase.

Thank you for adding just a little bit of humor to this otherwise disgusting article.
I honestly don't know what to say, either. I'm multiracial, myself, and this frankly enrages me. Yes, I live in an ultra-conservative WASP neighborhood, and no, I am not always socially accepted. But that certainly isn't a factor in deciding who gets married and who can't. Everyone gets picked on for one thing or another, it would seem. What next, not allowing redheads with freckles to get married so their children can't be called "gingers?"
I hope he goes to jail. On what charges, I'm not sure, but certainly there must be some way to punish this fellow.
Anyone should be allowed to be married to anyone else, and lets all just shut up about it.

At least there was a massive and unanimous uproar (both from the public and the government) concerning this case. I bet if it was a homosexual case no one would even care. I guess it's OK for gay people to be denied their basic legal and human rights that everyone else is allowed to enjoy, right?

That definitely went through my mind before I decided to post this. But it's worth noting because, even straight people are having trouble getting married because of Conversative-America.

I disagree on a view points. I've spent time in the South (Mississippi) and found that there are a great many people who can see past a person's skin color. In fact such a statement could itself be seen as prejudice.
Second, it sounds like the typical "All the racism is in the South." I hope I miss understood, becuase let me just say I've been all over this country and I've seen just as much maybe even more racism in other parts of this Nation as I have in the South.
That said, it is very sad that this would happen in 2009.

This is just pathetic. Why should race have to matter to get married?
