What was censored in the animated WDT tin sets? (exluding the fact that many titles were re-issue prints).

But I also welcome post about ceonsorship/edits in the live-action sets as well!

Off the top of my head:

Mickey Mouse In Living Color, Volume 1 has the edited version of "Clock Cleaners" on it where Donald's banter with the spring is changed. The unedited version is on "One Hour in Wonderland" on the Alice in Wonderland: Masterpiece Edition.

Silly Symphonies features the re-animated "Three Little Pigs" that changes the Jewish Peddler Wolf to the Fuller Brush Man Wolf. Ironically, the Jewish Peddler Wolf is seen in Leonard Maltin's intro, just not in the cartoon itself.

Disney Rarities include CinemaScope shorts that are not in their proper 2.35:1 aspect ratio (I think one is even cropped to at 2.0:1). Not really censorship, but it is a compromised version of the original presentation.

Chronological Donald, Volume Four includes "Bee on Guard" which, for some reason, cuts off five seconds at the end and goes to the end card.

That's all I can remember for animated. Live-Action tends to fare better, though there is that one "Disneyland" episode that is always presented incomplete (which cut downs an "Enchanted Tiki Room" segment and a Mouseketeers segment), but I can't remember the exact episode.

Didn't Walt himself order this edit very shortly after the film was completed?

It was done in the early 1940s according to DisneyShorts.org

thank, I was only making sure that I remembered correctly what was censored, a part from lacks of original titles. Im curenttly working on a list of Disney animated shorts that dont have it original titles.

Tja I discoverd just now that The Skeleton Dance croped on the vol 1 of Silly Symphonies* but not on the second Oswald disc.

* I do only have r2 version so I don'T kown if the problem is on R1 of DVD.

* In similar manner the censored part of three lttle pigs can be found uncensored on r2 verison

That still ticks me off that they did that. It caught me off guard originally and just made me scratch my head as to why they would do that.

The Cinemascope cartoons on The Chronological Donald Volume 4 are also not presented in their proper 2:35:1 aspect ratio. I was watching the cartoon Beezy Bear on the DVD with the same cartoon on YouTube. Apparently during the scene where all the bears are lined up against the wall, you don't see much of Humphery at the end of the line on the DVD version compared to the one I found on YouTube.

It could aslo be bad framing as that Youtube verion lacks more picture on the right vs the DVD that lacks picture on left.

Due to legal dept. paranoia, the original Mouseketeers are missing from the Dateline Disneyland opening day show. In the uncut footage they dance in front of the Fantasyland Theatre.

My biggest regret of the entire Treasures series is the whooping SIX MINUTES of Enchanted Tiki Room footage missing from the "Disneyland's Tenth Anniversary" program.

Using the timing on it's appearance on the "Your Host, Walt Disney" DVD as a guide, at 39:10 of that program, right after the conclusion of the "In the Tiki Tiki Tiki Room" song*, it cuts immediately to a shot of thunder at the finale of the show. If you watch this cut frame by frame, you will notice one small frame of an audience shot around the 39:10 mark.

In the version I recorded on the VHS format from Vault Disney off of the Disney Channel in the late 90's, this one frame of a crowd shot is the first frame of a longer crowd shot, which leads to presentations of the two most iconic songs in the show (other than the title song, of course) - "Let's All Sing Like The Birdies Sing" (sung by the Cockatoo Chorus), and "Hawaiian War Chant" (sung by the flowers). The shot of the storm that appears on the DVD at around 39:10 flows naturally from the end of this missing "Hawaiian War Chant" footage.

When this episode first appeared minus this six minutes on the "Disneyland USA" DVD, Al Lutz mentioned this prominantly in one of his columns, so when the same episode re-appeared a few years later on "Your Host, Walt Disney", I was hopeful that the reason was to right the previous wrong of it's edited first DVD appearance.

Alas, my frustration of the edit was even more disapointing the second time around.

I do not mention this to appear petty or ungrateful of all the great work Mr. Maltin has done for the Treasures series - I am simply a hard-core fan of the classic theme park Audio-Animatronics extravaganzas, particularly the ones featuring catchy songs and animals (such as Tiki Room, Country Bear Jamboree, and America Sings), so the professionally-filmed Tiki Room footage was literally what I was looking forward to the MOST on the "Disneyland USA" tin.

To have six minutes and two musical numbers cut from BOTH DVD versions of this episode was a crushing disapointment (presumably due to music publishing issues? Then again, that didn't seem to be an issue with those songs on the amazing "A Musical History Of Disneyland" CD boxed set).

When I watch the episode, I cue up my VHS copy to the spot of the edit, and when the DVD reaches this spot, switch over to the VHS footage for the six minutes of footage missing from the DVD. This really shows the limitations of the VHS format as compared to DVD, both in terms of the HUGE difference in picture quality easily noticed on even a 20 inch standard definition tv, as well as tracking issues involving playing back a VHS tape on a machine it was not recorded on (that machine is long broken). But, this is preferable to not having this footage at all.

Viewing this segment with the six minutes and two musical numbers intact (as originally intended) presents a much more thorough and comprehensive picture of the Tiki Room than the way it is presented on the DVD.

After the edits of this program, I read reviews of other Treasure sets before blind-buying any. I was particularly concerned for the second set of vintage theme park programs that appeared on the "Disneyland: Secrets, Stories, and Magic" DVD Treasures tin.

Thankfully, these all seem to be intact, including my beloved It's A Small World ride-through that appears on the "Disneyland Goes To The World's Fair" episode.

It is one of my DVD dreams that all classic park episodes yet to get a release will one day be released, and that as part of future theme park episode releases (be they called "Treasures" or anything else), that "Disneyland's Tenth Aniversary" (as well as the "Dateline Disneyland" program Merlin mentioned) will finally get a proper, uncut DVD release.

* Astute Disney park fans will no doubt notice that the iconic Tiki Room title song is itself heavilly abbreviated. However, this footage appeared this way in the original broadcast of this episode and was thankfully NOT edited for the DVD.

I would dearly love to get the rest of those classic park shows on DVD too - - "Disneyland Showtime" is one of my very favorites of all the anthology episodes.

Tja to add All Oswald shorts are somewhat screwed up not becouse of Disney worng doings rather after the original contract was lost Disney wasn't allowed to keep copy of these 26 shorts.

It would seem that very little here constitutes anything resembling actual *censorship* and that censorship is neither precisely nor exclusively what you're looking for.
