Very exciting news! The old DVD from Warners was starting to get rather tired anyway, so the Blu-ray will be coming just in time. I'll bet it will look gorgeous in high-def!

As a huge fan of musicals, I'm ashamed to say I've never seen The Music Man. I know, shame on me, but I can't help but feel a bit lucky that my first experience with this film will be in high-def. The BD will be a blind buy for me. Hopefully the Showboat set unofficially announced last year is on the horizon.

Oh, you'll love it! It's such a joyous film.

Very excited for this... I know they were talking about a new DVD release for a while now, and I'm glad they decided to do Blu also. I actually also really like the cover art... it's simple without being boring.

I'd never seen the Music Man until recently... but I saw the Mathew Broderick and Kristin Chenoweth version.

I still need to see the Disney remake with Matthew and Kristin...is it any good?

It would have perfectly fine if not for Matthew Broderick. Everyone else was solid, but he was basically Leo Bloom again. Whereas Robert Preston always seemed totally in control of the situation, I could never take Matthew seriously as a man who's pulling the strings for most of the movie.
Cheno was great, though. I loved that she got to sing "My White Knight" as opposed to "Being In Love", which never really did it for me. And Victor Garber and Molly Shannon were cromulent in the supporting roles of Mayor and Mrs. Shinn.

I've heard people complain that they actually took down the keys for Marian's songs (very curious since The Cheno is classically trained); but the Matthew Broderick/nebbish/Bloom problem is something he's habitually doing to most of his film roles at the moment, sadly.

It's possible they altered some keys... it's been a few years since I've seen the movie, and it's something I could have missed. And yuh to Matthew Broderick... what happened to his Ferris Bueller personality? That would worked so well with Harold Hill.

I fell in love with the Disney version and rented this. I'll definitely pick it up on Blu.

It's pretty gosh darn good, especially because of Kristin Chenoweth....
