I'll pass on this for the following reasons:

1. They're the same DVDs from the Season sets. This means that from Seasons 2 to 6, they squeeze 6 or 5 episodes per disc. As of late, 5 episodes per disc doesn't look too bad due to better compression, but these were done 5/6 years ago and 5 was stretching it, with 6 just looking outright bad.

2. Doesn't contain the original broadcast music on any of the DVDs post-Season 1, and from season 3 onwards, they changed the opening titles music from Paula Cole's "I Don't Wanna Wait" to the international theme song "Run Like Mad" by Jann Arden. The original broadcast music helped define what that show was, especially to its viewers. Having it changed because of music rights gets a big from me and many viewers. It seems kind of funny that they're including a bonus CD with some of the show's more memorable songs, and yet the DVDs likely have changed them.

3. Honestly, after Season 3 why bother watching?

Also, if I had the season sets, new interview and trivia game really isn't enough incentive to upgrade to the complete series.

Which season had the episode where the gang was locked overnight in Wal-Mart? That was a complete classic.

Guilty-pleasure show for me. So guilty in fact, I barely even watch it. One of these days ( the one when I achieve a Filthy Stinking Rich social status change ), I'll pick this up. Since I don't as yet own any of the solo seasons.

O my. I never considered that. That's just plain idiotic. No other word for it. Of course... we are talking about Sony here. Before Warner Bros. snatch-ed their crown, Sony were SATAN of the DVD world in my eyes.

Not much anyone can do about that now. There are just certain things DVD companies will never do. Including- ever fixing past mistakes without making new ones (I'm looking at you: Paramount, New Line, and Anchor Bay!).

The asshole record companies are greedy douchebags and are never going to give DVD companies a break. Maybe DVD companies are a little greedy too in their way but we don't know that. However, I think we all know about just how nasty record companies are. And of course- what purpose do they serve anyway? Are they the ones who make the music? Hell no. They don't produce a goddamn thing, they just distribute and keep themselves from getting ripped off. That's it. They're like Mafia for the music world. Until they shape up and see the light (which of course is: never), we're stuck never getting original music. Everything will be replaced. There's no other reality to face. This is what we're stuck with. We now have to try and make the best of it. And thinking of it that way makes me want to punch someone. But- what other choice... ?

If it makes you feel better, I'll personally come to your house, mute the DVD during the opening titles, and sing my own stirring rendition of "I Don't Wanna Wait" over them.

Well, not everything. Some DVD companies are dedicated to getting most of or all the original music intact on their TV-on-DVD releases (WB for example). But the majority unfortunately are content in either replacements or simply cutting the scene out (Paramount did this with some of their TV Shows, like "Odd Couple" and "Cheers").

I remember watching a Season 3 episode of "Las Vegas" on DVD, and they had an interesting, but still dickhead, way of dealing with replaced music. The scene originally used Styx's "Come Sail Away" (I remember it being broadcast that way), and on the DVD it was replaced with a cover version. So while the original music group wasn't used, the music selection still was. I nearly didn't catch on to it until I heard the "Come sail away, come sail away, come sail away with me" part as it suddenly sounded like some other group entirely.

Yeah, but then I'd have to buy the DVDs, and I don't want them given what Sony's done to them.

Now, if I had bootlegs of the original broadcasts, then you could come down. But since they're the original broadcasts they'd already have "I Don't Wanna Wait". So you'd be coming down here to mute what I'm already going to hear.

Most of the music cues in "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" have been replaced for the DVD releases. I owned most of the series from the original airings on TV so I was quite upset about the edits. However, one of my faves did in fact survive the chop - the lovely song that Sabrina and Harvey dance to in the two-part Second Season opener.

I think that's why I've been a little hesitant to buy the seasons of STTW. I feel like I could just tape the episodes off of ABC Family and they would be better than the DVD versions. Are the episodes on the DVD the syndicated cuts with the music missing? Or are they uncut with the music missing? I know on the back of the sets it says "Some episodes may be edited from their original network versions. Music has been changed for this home entertainment version."

These are mostly the chopped-down syndicated prints.

Yuck. Guess I'll save a lot of money and tape these episodes. I taped the majority of season 7 already from when it first aired in 2002 on The WB.
