Well, that's a Disney purist for you. People think that Disney should never, never, never, ever, ever purchase anything.

It's just like what David Koenig said in "Mouse Under Glass". He wrote about Disney purists accusing Imagineers of becoming "lazy and unimaginative", when they made deals with George Lucas and others about acquiring their properties to use in the Disney parks and said that Walt would never have bought the Muppets; he would've created his own characters.

I think WDWlocal was actually commenting on the fact that someone drew an evil Mickey rather than the fact that Disney bought Marvel.

Just because Disney buys properties from other companies does not mean that Disney is becoming lazy and unimaginative.

And the "What Would Walt Do" nonsense really gets out of hand in situations like this. It especially becomes ludicrous when they go so far as to compare all of Disney's modern output to the stuff that came out during Walt's time.

Walt's dead, folks, so nobody will ever really know what he truly would've done in cases like these recent acquisitions.

Now, I don't know much of anything about comic books, but from just reading this little blurb, to me, this sounds like it might be something for Disney to explore:

and up-and-coming ones such as the Runaways, a street-savvy pack of teenagers that have become a recent Marvel comic-book hit.

Because teenagers like comic-book movies, and because it's already become a recent hit- if people are currently interested in the property, then they're more likely to want to see the movie (or TV show)!

Disney would benefit the most from new characters that Disney and Marvel develop together because the company would own the franchises outright instead of simply receiving licensing fees from the movies that Sony Corp. and News Corp.'s Fox produce on their own. Those deals last until Sony and Fox stop making the movies. New characters could also be a boon for fans who are tiring of sequels.

So that means that these would be all-new characters, right? Would they probably get their own comic book series first, to introduce people to the property, or just start making TV shows or movies with the characters?

It is of course true that Kirby was involved with the creation of Hulk, Iron man and X-Men, but as far as I know, he had nothing to the with Spider-Man. This character was invented by Lee and Ditko.

Great. Something else for Disney to completely F up. Did you see what they did to the Power Rangers. Just look on youtube for Power Rangers Remastered and see what I mean. They added horrible 60s Batman Bam Pow effects and awful "japanese game show" graphics to the fight scenes. Ugh.

I wonder if Fox is really gonna make another Daredevil film and another Fantastic Four film - just to keep the rights. The first ones weren't that good to begin with, maybe they should just let it rest.

I do wonder what'll happen with all those Marvel shows on Nickelodeon, maybe they'll just ship it all off to Disney XD. Or perhaps cancelling 'em altogether.

And even though 4 billion is a lot of money, I can't help but think that Marvel was worth a whole lot more than that. Disney even paid more money for Fox Family Worldwide/Saban Entertainment (5.3 billion), and what are they doing with that now - ABC Family is virtually a re-run station and the Saban shows are locked up in the overcrouded Disney Vault. Oh well, I'm probably missing something here.

Amazing things could happen with Marvel's creativity, and Disney's money. As long as they truly get that promised 'freedom'.
