How about some bareback?

That was the question asked of me today. I've ridden horses a whole two times in my life and not very good at balance. No saddle, no stirrups, no bit. Thankfully she gave me reins, lol! This was my FIRST horse riding lesson, ever! I've wanted to ride horses since I was probably 3. But my parents opted to let me piggyback with my older sister's dance lessons...I still haven't forgiven them for that. I was always a tomboy, a country girl. Not into this girly crap. I am 30 now and a 10 year old daughter of my own. Been waiting till I had the budget to do this and found a great ranch locally that does classes. She is very much about horse and rider being one. About learning horse behavior and care. When I first got there, she handed us the halter and line and told us, "Go get him"...We had to get him out of the pasture ourselves. She showed us how to tie him up, groom him and a bit of tacking. But decided to do the bareback instead. She is more into bareback and no bit riding. Very homeopathic too. Scooter, the horse I rode, for instance, can't be vaccinated. It causes his thyroid to balloon out and you may see that in some pics below, so she does all homeopathic treatments over injections and it does them all just fine. I love the place. Its a dream come true to find it.
Now I can truly say...I need to get off my high horse.

His name is Scooter, he's a gorgeous buckskin!
At one point while my daughter was riding, she brought him around and he saw the stable door was open and took off at a nice fast trot, but she was able to slow him down and stop him, eventually, lol.
This is Boogie, a mini-horse. He was SO cute and SO spunky! He would get all the other horses running around

I used to take horseback riding lessons! I think I was around your daughter's age! Your daughter is so, so, so cute. My favorite horses are thoroughbreds and yellow-coated palominos. What horse breeds are at this ranch?
I was never either a tomboy or a girly-girl. I stretched myself out into everything from hockey to ballet.

She mostly has paints. The paints have some thoroughbred in them as well. She also has two buckskins. And the mini horse. Then she has another pony who is a dapple gray.
Montana is one of her biggest horses. He's a paint/thoroughbred. He's very sweet.
Spirit is also a paint. He was abused so he is shy, but he let me pet him.
The dapple gray pony is Magic.
Ziggy is a paint pony
Scooter and Tinker are buckskins.
Boogie is the mini
Kozmo is a paint. Kozmo was abused and is a bit head shy, but other than that, a real nice pony.
I'll take more and better pictures of the other horses next time
I am shocked I remembered all that lol

I go and make a nice thread about me riding a horse and you all twist it around. You all need to get your minds out of the gutters LOL

I blame the internet...
Anyways, getting this back on topic it looks like you had fun!
Though to be honest, horses terrify me. Mainly because the riders around here ride them like they were cars; fast and furious.

I thought horses when I read the thread title!
That's so awesome! The only times I've ridden horses (maybe I've only ridden ponies, I don't know) have been when I was little and there was a person holding the reins. I'd be too scared to do it any other way, I think...but I think it looks fun and it must feel really free!

I must say Siren, the title was misleading.

Can you blame me for thinking this way after looking at the "Post a Picture of Yourself" thread? Let's just hope nobody makes a "How About Some Cock?" thread to show their collection of roosters.
On the subject of horseback riding, isn't it neat? I remember the first time I tried and how awkward it was (in the desert where we were warned that the horses might get scared by snakes in the ground!). It was with a saddle, but I didn't do much. I would love to go back and really learn to ride properly while galloping for example as the wide open spaces are a great place to do it.
Glad to see you gave it a chance, Siren!
