Disney Purchases New Domain Names: What is The Tiger King?

Disney went on an apparent domain shopping spree recently. Purchased sites include monsters2.com, sites for the announced this morning World War Robot (a graphic novel Bruckheimer just acquired the movie rights too, and one for The Tiger King movie. What is this? Slashfilm speculates that it is some kind of Lion King spin-off. I really hope it's nothing like that and since the title is so close to The Lion King I really hope it's not an animated feature. Anybody have any idea what this project might be?

I don't know what The Tiger King will be, but we have to remember that movie names can and will change.

I'm not sure when Disney started registering domain names, but has Disney ever registered domain names of a movie whose name hadn't changed yet? What I mean is, for example, did Disney ever register KingdomOfTheSun.com, or something? If it isn't TLK related, one would hope that Disney would change the title.

As the article mentions, Lassiter isn't for DTV sequels of animated films anymore, except for things like the Tinker Bell films. Makes you wonder about Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2, though; even though that's not animated (well, I mean, it's partially animated, what with the dogs' mouths and all), it's still a DTV sequel. As of now, anyway, apparently.

Do tigers even live in the part of Africa that Simba & friends do? It's definitely a wait and see situation, but it's interesting. It *could* be a live-action film, too, though...hmmm...

I'm not going to speculate on this for one reason.

I have absoultely no idea what this is about.

The Tiger King? Admittidly, I didn't get the connection with the TLK until it was mentioned in this thread... but I don't understand how it could be related because it's about a tiger... which is in the jungle, whilst lions are in the plains...? So there could be no character connection could there? Outside of Timon and Pumbaa, who else?

A quick search on ask.com proves that wild tigers are not found in Africa, at all, besides zoos...? Only in Asia. Maybe it's a take-off of TLK, a parody maybe? Or it could be about Tigger or Sher Kahn (sp?). On the other hand, it could be completely original and the name is just a coincidence.

Well, I guess I did speculate... but I'm so confused about this.

While Lasseter hates DTVs and therefore canceled the animated ones, I don't believe he has any jurisdiction over live-action and therefore Beverley Hills Chihuahua 2 can be made.

Is your point that Brother Bear initially was explained as "The Lion King with bears?"

There are only a certain numbers of stories that can be told, although they can be told in many ways.

I mean, there are many Disney movies about princesses, so why not about animal royalty, right?

Oh, no... It's just that Disney has never made an animated movie about tigers and this Wizard of Oz quote seemed quite fitting :p. (I'm assuming it's going to be an animated movie, of course :)).

Good idea. Maybe the title is supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek reference to TLK? That would be interesting.

Who knows what it is....this could be the codename.....or Perhaps it could be another DTV Tigger Movie......or a theatrical.....one.....I still think its too early to tell exactly what it is.....also it could be something like a DisneyNature thing.....

btw Mooky...I don't comment on signatures often....however I love yours a lot....its the most original I've seen since CJ's Disney 90s Toon Characters featuring Ducktlales and that genre

Disney Nature...Hopefully

I certainly hope disney doesn't start replacing terrible sequeals with crappy spin-offs. :x Hopefully this tiger thing is another installment of the Disney Nature series. BTW Lions and Tigers don't don't live in the same type of environment. You would never see a Lion with a tiger in the wild. Lions live in the savana and tigers live in the jungle.

actually there are lions in India that live in forests and they used to compete with bengal tigers for food, and if it wasn't for humans they would still interact. There are also cheetahs in Iran.

maybe i'm just speculating but.......... could it be that the "Tiger" that this is referring to is Tigger? And that this Tiger King may have something to do with the new animated Pooh movie that is following the princess and the frog? To me that is the most logical explanation, unless disney is somehow going to do another animal royalty story, which i doubt because the lion king is perfection and nothing will ever beat it. my guess.. this is either a documentary or this tiger king has some connection to the new Pooh movie.

Actually Aesop beat out all of them

I wonder if that classic story has anything to do with it.
