Finally! I don't know about you guys but I'm excited!
<i>I find the situation unbelievable myself.</i>" - Daria
Whenever registered members log on here, there's a "User Stats" screen that shows up, telling you TV Show names, DVD Release listings, and News Items have been posted since your last log-in. It gives a lot of other info on that page, too, and in the bottom right are the top ten "Most Requested Unreleased Shows". It's no surprise that the top two on that list are a pair of shows held up for release due to various rights issues: <i>The Wonder Years</i> and the classic '60s <i>Batman</i>.
The 3rd item down, for quite some time, is MTV's <i>Daria</i>. A spin-off of <i>Beavis and Butt-head</i>, the show's only seen a pair of minor DVD releases back in 2002: <i>Daria - The Movie: Is It Fall Yet?</i> and <i>Daria - Is It College Yet?</i>. For the past seven years there's been no further word...until now!
Marty Day, who runs the website Blast-O-Rama.com, received an early copy yesterday of another long-awaited MTV program, <i>The State</i>. Marty's e-mail to us, describing what happened next, just about says it all: "<i>Popped in the first disc, and wouldn't you know it, the DVD starts with an ad promoting Daria hitting DVD in 2010. I guess they're following one 'couldn't be done' release with another!</i> Marty was also kind enough to send us a screen capture as proof...we've got that below!
This is incredible news for the thousands of registered members of this site, who have voted for <i>Daria</i> to get a proper release on DVD. We're obviously going to be keeping a sharp eye out for more info about this <b>2010</b> DVD release, so stay tuned and we'll update you!

I'm wondering how they're handling the copyrights for the music., if they dished out for royalties or if it will be replaced/dropped.

				SWEET JIMMINY CRICKET ON ENCHILADA!
About time they released Daria on DVD. I just watched the series through YouTube and its just as awesome and biting as I remember. But for some reason I couldn't never accept Tom as Daria's love interest. Its just that Daria struck to me as the kind of girl that is happier being independent.
By the way which is my best side?

You know, I actually don't think Daria did either. But I think it works because of how the show ended.

How DID the series end? I know one of the movies was meant to close the series after MTV cancelled them.

Here's a synopsis of the final episode, "Boxing Daria," which offers some closure between Daria and Jane about Tom if I remember right (although I might be confusing it with another episode or even the first movie):

The "Is it College Yet?" movie is the finale of the series, and a detailed synopsis can be found through this link (which is obviously very spoiler-sensitive):

Wow, I need to freshen up on this stuff, lol.

Ditto, though just for fun, I"ll add this bit of dialogue from "Fair Enough", one of my favourite episodes of "Daria":
Stacy - (sobs) Please, you gotta let me on.
Operator - Can't. We're full up.
Stacy - But I don't want anyone to see my eyes. They're this really weird shade of red.
Operator - Sorry, safety regulations...
Stacy - I'll pay you double.
Operator - All aboard. (puts Stacy in with Daria and Jane)
Daria - Excuse me. You can't do this.
Jane - We're human beings, damn it!

I LOVE DARIA! It is SO much better than Beavis and Butt-Head, and I will definitely be buying all the seasons.

The news got me in the mood to go back and watch a few episodes. I remember I loved the show back in the day and giving it a fresh look hasn't changed a thing. I can't wait to get my hands on some high-quality eps.
And wow, I totally mixed up parts of the last episode with the first movie.

That's what I find so ironic. Daria, a very, very smart show with well written stories and dialogue, was spun off from one of the stupidest shows in the existence of mankind.
Enigmawing: I saw the show just as I was entering high school. It was so much fun how the show portrayed high school in both a quirky and snarky manner. I saw the episodes recently on YouTube and I am amazed how the show managed to strike a balance between humor and cynicism.
To me, Daria and Jane are the perfect examples of how to write characters. Characters like them would be instantly detestable in the hands of an inexperienced writer since these are archetypes known for antagonizing the other characters. Yet Daria and Jane are very lovable and you actually care for them even if they think everything is bad.
I think anyone that desires to become a writer in any medium should watch this show and learn that you can be witty and funny without relying on sight gags and over the top humor.

I am sooo happy! I have been angry with MTV for not releasing some of their greatest shows, and I cannot believe that Daria is going to be on DVD. I definitely will be getting it! It will be reliving my Jr. High and High School experience (though maybe I don't want to do that... haha).
I hope MTV comes around and releases "2gether" at some point. That would be my next pick

OMG, 2gether!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For the right price, I would definitely buy that show on DVD! I don't have the movies, though, so I'm going to add them to my Christmas list right now!

I enjoyed that show when it was on. Good times.

You know something...
I actually think B&B was a great series! I hated it when I was a kid. But then I grew up and quite realized B&B was - for what it was - sheer brilliance.
Anyway, about Daria... They have to keep it on YouTube. I think the first 7 episodes are still the "music replaced" versions, but I can't have to watch those shows with replacement music. The Mtv soundtrack to those shows is one of the things that seriously added to the tone of the attitude Daria and Jane had. They would often use upbeat and overly trendy music as the soundtrack to Quinn, Brittany, Kevin, and other characters' side of the show, and the more indie flavored music would be with Daria, Jane, Trent, and Andrea. Not to mention- it added to the humor of the show. Nothing can approximate the original soundtrack.

When I got the news from tvshowsondvd my heart almost stopped. I LOVE this show!!! I (like many I'm sure) was ALWAYS (and still) called Daria due to my monotone voice, glasses, and attitude. I even had a green jacket and black boots at one point, which made the teasing worse. But since I loved Daria so much it didn't bug me.
Hopefully this doesn't end up getting canceled...that is just my luck. But I'm glad it is finally happening. When it comes out maybe I'll actually buy the two movies.

I don't care if some of the music will be replaced; I just want this show on DVD...!

Daria was such a heroine during my highschool years; one of the great Gen Y. characters.

				We have a release date!
May 11, 2010
Once again, this is the complete series plus the movies and bonus features, almost 27 hours of material! We're still waiting on audio specs, pricing, and cover art.
<i>The people of Lawndale just don't get Daria Morgendorffer. She's cool with that. See, Daria was born alienated, and now she's just trying to make it through high school with as little human contact as possible. Popularity, friends, activities...whatever. Daria lacks enthusiasm, but she makes up for it with sarcasm.</i>
Since last summer we've known that MTV and Paramount Home Entertainment is preparing a 2010 DVD release for the animated series <i>Daria</i>, the 1997 spin-off of <i>Beavis and Butt-head</i>. This morning Paramount has officially announced the title, giving us a release date of:
<center><font size=5><b>May 11, 2010</b></font></center>
<i>Daria - The Complete Animated Series</i> on DVD will, according to the studio, contain "<i>ALL FIVE SEASONS PLUS BOTH MOVIES!</i>" The running time is 1606 minutes (almost 27 hours!), and video is listed as full screen. Audio specs haven't been provided yet, nor do we have pricing or package art so far. But for now here's a list of the bonus material that will be found on the set, and please stay tuned for updates!

This makes me a very happy panda.

 Or elephant in this case...
I can't believe it, finally. Somehow I missed this news when it was first reported last year on tvshowsondvd.com, but now, yeah, this is so awesome. I LOVE this show. Damn you Paramount or MTV or whoever is in charge at the home entertainment department - for making me wait so long.
... and they all lived happily ever after... with the complete series of Daria on dvd.
