Wow, can´t believe it, but today 75 years ago the world´s greatest duck made its debut in "The Wise Little Hen".

So it´s time for some celebration with cake and cartoons

I think I always liked Donald more than Mickey...even if I can't understand him. He's funnier. Come to think of it, my grandfather does a really good Donald Duck impression from my chidlhood!

Out of all the classic characters, I've always had a soft spot for Donald, mainly because you can't help but feel sorry for all the predicaments he ends up in, but you just have to laugh. I always loved the shorts where he faces off against Chip 'n' Dale, even if they do get repetitive.

I'm a big fan of Donald as well, and those great classic shorts with him matching wits with Chip and Dale, Humphrey the Bear, Buzz-Buzz the Bee (aka Spike), etc. This would be a great day to watch some of those classic shorts!

I also really enjoy his voice and his laugh!

One of my favorite parades at the parks was one celebrating Donald's Birthday with an entire float of live ducks accompanying Donald! I was a kid, so it must have been for the 50th.

Do you prefer the "Donald versus Chip 'n' Dale" or "Donald versus Huey, Dewey, & Louie" cartoons?

I prefer the Donald v. Chip 'n' Dale cartoons. The HDL ones are enjoyable too, but I enjoy the Chip 'n' Dale characters more.

You're temporarily marooned on a desert island with Donald Duck, but his random quackety rants eventually get annoying. Do you try to talk it out with him or just figure out ways to annoy him back until you get rescued?

I'd annoy him right back, two can play at that game!

Happy Birthday Donald! You've always been my favourite of the "gang"!

I've read that Donald's 75th birthday is largely ignored by Disney in the USA because mentioning his age would scare off the young. Is this really true? Sounds a bit ridiculous to me. Donald Duck may have the age of a granddad, as a cartoon figure he remains young forever.

Also, It seems that Donald Duck is much more popular in Europe than in the USA. And I mean not so much the Donald from the shorts, as the Donald from the weekly magazine that carries his name, and the comics by Car Barks.

In Holland, a one-time 'glossy' magazine about Donald has been publised. It is aimed at men, as they seem tho have much more with the Duck than women. As a female fan I bought it for myself anyway.

Most of you won't understand the comment of course, but you will have a look at the magazine. I hope I will be able to show some more picts from the magazine soon.
The "Galerij der Groten" (Gallery of the Great) in this magazine is hilarous. It includes reworkings of famous Beatle album covers and a Da Vinci drawing.

As much of an animation geek I am and as much as I love the old Donald shorts, I actually prefer the Donald we see depicted in the comics. And according to them, he was "born" (hatched?) around 1920, which would actually make him close to 90. But to be fair that's a whole different continuity.

Anyway, it's cool to know that characters my parents grew up with are still around.

That glossy magazine is fantastic! Occasionally, I'll still read the 'regular' Donald Duck weekly comic, but in my opinion, this glossy shows much more creativity, heart and artistic involvement than any of the weeklies of the last 10 years. I especially like the parody on Sgt. Pepper, drawn by Gerben Valkema. Can someone make a scan of it and post it here?

I can try to make a scan of the "Sgt Pepper" parody I think. Only question is on what webpage I would put it to show it here on UltimateDisney Maybe on my hyves profile? (I've done it before with a photograph of my Disney dvd-collection). I could show other parodies as well!
