From the front page-
As expected, yet another one of Disney's live-action/animation hybrids will get an upgrade in 2009. Bedknobs and Broomsticks: Enchanted Musical Edition will reach stores on September 8. Details to be announced.
I'm not a huge fan, but I will pick this up since I don't already own it.

So it's not a "Beautiful Briny" or "Poisoned Dragon's Liver" edition? Dang.

I hope the bonuses are good and while were on the trend of re-releasing Disney live action musicals to DVD can we have new editions of either Babes in Toyland and/or The Happiest Millionaire for Christmas Disney?

Are these "subtitles" of re-releases get more ridiculous and lame each time or is it me?

Anw, I hope Disney will produce at least a descent release and make justice to the film. But knowing Disney's policy they probably won't. They give you a 2-disc deluxe editions for crap like Hannah Montana and they treat their animated films which they became renowned for like dog poo. There's definitely something rotten in the Mouse kingdom.

I will probably get this since I don't own the GCC DVD. I'd rather see this next to Pete's Dragon than Hannah Montana, but whatever.

So...will it be on BluRay while they're at it? I'm getting really SICK of Disney releases that are only made available on standard def.

You mean they poison the dragon, or just the liver?

I'd have preferred Mango Wuzzle Edition, myself.

Disney first started releasing catalog titles on Blu-Ray in Fall 2006 (Dinosaur and Eight Below), and since then, none of their catalog Blu titles are anything from before 2000 (Remember the Titans). They'll be in their third year of Blu titles this September, and if they passed on a Blu-Ray for Mary Poppins back in January 2009, I doubt they'll go Blu for less popular catalogue titles like Pete's Dragon or Bedknobs and Broomsticks.

Compare that to when Disney joined the DVD bandwagon in 1998. Aside from Mary Poppins and Bedknobs and Broomsticks, most every other catalogue title in the first four years was something from the 90s or so. Anything older (and less popular) they licenced out to Anchor Bay. It wasn't until 2002 that Disney gave some good treatment to the live-action catalogue (Vault Disney titles, for example), and then rushed a slew of releases in the next few years to get most of their live-action catalogue titles out (even if most were old video masters, pan&scan or open-matte, and barebones or near-barebones).

It sucks, but it looks like Disney's going to repeat that pattern (wait a few years before putting it out on a new medium) with their older titles.

Plus, there is always the good excuse of "they need to create new HD masters for the titles, and that takes time and money". If Disney couldn't be bothered to make new masters for the DVD releases, I'm sure that at the moment and in the near future, they're not busy making new HD masters for the old titles, until they feel the need to prep it for Blu.

That subtitle reminds me of the Aladdin re-issue we just got (Yes, it's no longer a Platinum guys!)

I wonder if we are going to start seeing a flood of these types of sets.

(OT: Personally, I wish they would start releasing proper collectors sets through D23 with custom art either based off the poster, or god forbid the soundtracks! They have a captive audience and can charge through the roof for it, and it will make us happy!)

I'm pretty darn excited for this one! The Gold Collection DVD release had a fair amount of supplements - could use some more. The menus could use "sprucing up" and the packaging was just horrible. I don't think I've seen packaging for this film I liked. The original posters were pretty bland and the VHS covers didn't do much for me. I'd like something with the 5 main characters flying on the bed over the london skyline at night. The colorful flying scenes always stood out to me as a kid. Anyway - I'll most likely double dip for this one.

Well it comes prepared, it's part of the school equipment.

Or better yet, the "OMG This is SO Poorly Dubbed" Edition.

Also, just saw the cover art and I like it. Better than the older edition.

Continuing with the dubbed route, let's have a "Mrs. Hobday's Accent Changes Since Half Her Scenes Are Re-Dubbed" Edition.

Regarding the cover, I was a bit giddy at the interlocking O's. It has nothing to do with the movie, it just reminds me of the "Another World" logo from 1966 to 1981:

Also, I'm glad to see that Eglantine and company aren't tiny little figures like in the Gold Collection/30th Anniversary cover. God, that thing was so misleading. Makes it look like an animated movie about animals playing soccer...with some random people in a flying bed.

I hope this not the final name for this up coming re-release, because if it is then I have given up on Disney all together. I'll only be getting this edition if it has worth while special features on it.

It would be great if they somehow found the missing footage for the "Step In The Right Direction" sequence and restored it to the film. I'm not holding my breath, but it would be a nice surprise if they did.

Also, I agree with those who would like a 2-Disc set - both for this and for Pete's Dragon. The longer running time of these films themselves means there is even less room for bonus features than on the one-disc DAC releases - and I wouldn't be surprised if most, if not all, of Pete's Dragon's original GC features were dropped, as none were mentioned along with the new features.

That new cover art is absolutely gorgeous, infinitely classier than the Gold Classic one.

Even though I only buy BDs now, I may go the same route Aaron's going with Pete's Dragon: buy the DVD, anyway. Not only is it one of my favorite films, but poor sales may make Disney more reluctant to release it in high-definition. If my purchase makes a BD release more of a possibility, then great. Even Disney takes forever to go that route, at least I can say I'll have the most definitive edition to date for the film (assuming everything gets ported over along with the new supplements).

I've never seen this film. I'll probably just buy it when it comes to DVD and finally give it a viewing. I"m excited.

I AGREEEEE!!!! The cover art is AWESOME!

I have always loved this movie and I may double dip on this release just for the artwork. I CANT STAND the artwork that was made for the Gold Collection. Possibly the worst Disney cover ever...

I don't know what to think of the cover.

It reminds me of this one a little too much:

Finally a decent cover for this title - - I'll buy it again just to get rid of the old cover (if all the same extras are here).
