Overproduction is never good...

I just wonder if all these animated films flooding the market might hinder Disney's return to animation (mostly with Rapunzel, because it'll be released right in there). If they stick to 2D, they might be able to differentiate themselves from everyone else. But if they go 3D, the average person won't know what's Disney and what's Dreamworks. *worried*

I just wonder if they decided to release more films because Disney has re-started animation. I wouldn't be surprised. Or maybe they thought they could double their money this way.

Quantity over quality...can't say I'm really surprised. This is the mantra that almost killed Disney at the turn of the millenium, but now they've seemed to learn their lesson. This will certainly blow up in Dreamworks' face. One of two things will happen: 1) people attend the films, see how the quality's declined, and spread bad word of mouth, or 2) people will pass on the films before even seeing them since there'll be so many churning out. Like Disney's Divinity, I hope this oversaturation doesn't affect Disney or Pixar films for the worse.

*sigh* I'm afraid I think that's what will happen, especially to WDAS rather than Pixar. WDAS may be very important to us, but it seems these last 5 - 9 years it's been off the animation map entirely. The general public seems to easily recognise Pixar and DreamWorks flicks, but not WDAS productions (despite the newly added logo at the begninning of the films). Heck, even Blue Sky seem more recognisable. Strangely, this quality seems to make WDAS films feel more obscure in the marketplace, even if they get flamboyant marketing (e.g. Chicken Little, BOLT ...). Indeed, a hand-drawn film will most likely snap the public out of its apathy and make them realize that WDAS still exists. Hopefully, after PatF, they'll also know which CG films are produced by WDAS too.

Nowhere is WDAS' current situation more apparent then when you read in an article "Pixar's main rival, DreamWorks ..." or "DreamWorks' main rival, Pixar". And what are WDAS? Chopped anal sphincters? (I opted for that expression intead of "chopped liver" since the latter has become a cliche ...)

I wouldn't be surprised with how neurotic Katzenberg seems to be.

He still seem to can't get over the fact that he was let go from Disney and keeps wanting to grind his axe, which made me doubly surprised to see him on the Little Mermaid DVD.

I agree that they are releasing too many films to early. What I am more annoyed about is the names they are giving some of the films (Shrek Forever After? Really?!).

They seriously need to stop making "Shrek" films! They keep getting worse.

How to Train your Dragon and The Guardians seem to be the only ones worth looking forward too, IMO.

This is definitely overkill. I enjoy and respect Dreamworks and love many of their films. But this is milking the cow dry. I really hope this doesn't affect animation in general.

I'm kinda excited for this one. Wasn't too happy with Shrek the Third but maybe they'll surprise us. Although I'm not so sure how I feel about Andrew Adamson not directing. Mike Mitchell did an ok job on Sky High - it was cute, but not great. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
