ultimatedisney.com wrote:May 22, 2009 - Disney has announced Pete's Dragon: High-Flying Edition for DVD release on August 18th. Announced bonus features include a deleted Terminus & Hoagy storyboard sequence (with rare demo dialogue), the featurette "Brazzle Dazzle Effects: Disney's Movie Magic" narrated by Sean Marshall (Pete), four song demos (including a deleted one performed by a cut character),
promotional pop recordings of 4 songs from the film, and the song concept demo "Boo Bop Bopbop Bop (I Love You, Too)." Carrying a $29.99 list price, the FastPlay-equipped disc will come packaged in the all-important foil-embossed cardboard slipcover with chances to save with the purchase of a to-be-announced high-profile release issued alongside it. Tentative cover art has been posted here.

Hannah Montana's Movie comes out Aug 4th.....

I like the cover, it's different from the past cover and has a friendly quality to it... As for the bonus I'm excited bout the deletend/possibly "extended" Dr. T/Hoagy sequence and for Shawn Marshall narratin the Brazzle Dazzle feature. I'm surpised Disney didn't have a "Teen cover" of Candle On The Water (guess it's a relief and the same goes for the "absent" Digital copy *laughs* as for the high flyin" title, I'd go with Pete's Dragon: 30th Aniv. Edition

High-Flying Edition? Not Brazzle Dazzle Edition?

Anyway, sounds like a good set with those bonus features and their run time (or at least the 25 minute featurette).

Hi, my name is Disney and I'd like to sell you something you already have so I can squeeze every last penny out of every title I've ever released on DVD.

This non-Blu-ray Edition can Die In A Fire!!!

Ah, thanks. That list in the link on that forum also said that Beauty and the Beast was due August 10, 2010. ????? Kinda weird, but whatever. Haha.

Yeah, and it so happens I missed out on the last DVD. I'm just happy one's being made available. If you don't like it, don't buy it.

can't there be a single release thread without someone griping how or asking where's the blu ray.....I support blu ray but I don't go around asking or demanding that every dvd come accompanied with a blu ray release.......I swear the battle with Blu Ray vs HDDVD was just part 1 of the battle....and this DVD VS Blu Ray is getting more hectic than the previous format war

"Soon to be announced high profile title"???

Hmmm, following the theme of animation/live-action - - Pete's Dragon, Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, So Dear to My Heart and... Song of the South?

Pete's Dragon - Main topic of this discussion
Mary Poppins - Already got an unneeded re-release this year.
Bedknobs and Broomsticks - Likely.
So Dear to My Heart - Give it another year on the Exclusive list.
Song of the South - In the words of Sondheim's great musical "Into the Woods," "I wish."

I know. It's one reason I've posted less lately, as most topics eventually become little spats between one format over another. Honestly, I don't see why anyone should complain or criticize about which format other people prefer in their living rooms. I've come to just ignore any DVD versus Blu talk nowadays. They'll both be around for quite some time, and even if this particular title is DVD-only at the moment, it's sure to be re-released in Blu eventually. It's not like Disney's going to re-release the majority of their live-action catalogue within two years in a new format. This isn't 2003 or 2004! :P

Anyway, regarding the news of the new Pete's Dragon, I'm excited for it. The old DVD had good archival material, none of which seems to be mentioned, so I'm holding on to it because of that. I wonder, though, if Disney will matte it properly to 1.75:1 (which is the ratio listed in the pressbook that disneyfella posted in another thread) or stick with the 1.66:1 that was used in the DVD.

I remember reading a couple years ago (from Jim Hill, so take it with a grain of salt), that Disney planned a 60th Anniversary release in 2006, but then decided to delay it until The Princess and the Frog hit theatres, with a "Hey, look, we're politically correct with this new film! So forgive us for releasing this old one!" excuse. Either way, I'll believe a legitimate Song of the South release has happened when I'm driving home from Target or Best Buy with it.

I certainly wouldn't mind a general release of So Dear to My Heart, though, especially if it re-instated the "Lost and Found" featurette that's on all the other regions' DVDs except R1. A new documentary would be nice too (especially given that it got like, 1.3 minutes worth of time in the TCM doc).

And it's more than likely we'll get a new Bedknobs and Broomsticks before the year's over if BBFC classifications are anything to go by.

Oh joy of joys! My collection has felt naked ever since I sold my Gold Collection DVD (I wanted to sell it before people knew about the new edition); I knew that this one would have some kind of featurette that the old one didn't.

I'm so glad that it's officially announced!!! Part of me had been worried that Disney would back out of releasing this (a la the Lilo & Stitch Special Edition; yes, I know that that was released, but it took years after announcing it to be released in R1).

Luke wrote "a to-be-announced high-profile release". But it's coming out Aug. 18. The Black Cauldron has already been announced, but the date hasn't. I can't wait to find out when that Special Edition comes out, but I hope my wallet can handle all these DVDs and CDs coming out in this summer! Of course we all wish it were Song of the South, and I do think that that will be released in the future...maybe, though, just maybe, Disney hasn't announced that yet (if it is indeed the Aug. 18 release) because they want as short a window as possible from the time it is announced to the time it is released, so there is less time for people to complain and stage boycots and whatnot. :?

While I share deeply in your disappointment that Pete's Dragon apparently isn't going Blu alongside this new DVD release, it isn't fair to say that we're being sold something we already have. It's been eight years since the last release and UD's breaking news on this release indicates that there will be several brand-new supplements. While I'm waiting for more info (and while I wish an audio commentary had been included among the announcements), I find several of these new supplements to be very exciting. The movie is due for new treatment, regardless of the format. I'll absolutely be adding the new DVD edition to my collection, even while I wait anxiously for a Blu-ray release.

Unfortunately there can't be and it's a shame.

On topic: I'm excited for this release! I also can't wait to hear what the "to-be-announced high-profile release" is.
