My daughter has been wanting to do an Abe Sapien costume for over 4 years. I finally got to work on one this year and I have 4 days to finish it in time for Jacon. Its nearly there.

The mask is bought, from a seller on Etsy. It is specially made for children and the goggles are filled with blue water.

The rest of the costume is made from a black leotard, Hellboy patches, Hellboy belt buckle, belt, gun holster (not pictured), airsoft handgun, boots, jeans, gloves, cell phone (not pictured).
The reverse-aqualung is being made from scratch from various spare parts.
Airline tubing for aquariums, battery operates air pump for aquariums, clear tubing for plumbing, rubber feet from a table, air stones for aquariums, black paint, blue food coloring, electrical tape, glue, vinyl (not pictured), cut up black storage bin (not pictured), wire.

The reverse aqualung WORKS...It is filled with real water and bubbles. The airpump is painted black and will be hooked on her belt in the back. I painted the airline tubing black to blend in

Here is what I got thus far....the before and after of my workbench with the water-filled tube.

And the finished result...

And here is my daughter with the costume on thus far...we forgot to put on the holster. Gloves need some velcro to tighten at the wrists. She's outgrown those jeans so I will buy new ones this week.

Close up...we need some blue face paint for around the lips to blend in

I did a late night run to Home Depot...thank goodness it stays open till 10PM! Got myself some black vinyl tubing and this is what I got so far! Been working on it for about 3 hours.

This is at the start of my work...preparing the dining room table...btw this costume has taken over 2 tables in my house. Tubing, electrical tape, vinyl material, and air conditioner insulation foam.....and lots and lots of hot glue! I bow down to the inventor of hot glue

And here it is...half finished. Will finish it after work tonight

And for comparison....

It still could use improvements, but that will have to happen after Jacon

Thanks for posting the comparison picture, Crystal- now I can say that you've done an amazing job- it looks just like the picture!!! I think it's really cool that you and your daughter go to the Cons and dress up and all!

I picked up more stuff for it today. Trying to work on making a pretty screen-accurate version. I got some florescent bulb fuses and will paint them to glue to the water filled tube.

See the little silver buttons on the side of the tube? That's what I mean.

Also bought Sculpey clay and some paint to sculpt his spine, shoulder, and leg fins protrusions. I will sculpt, bake, paint and glue them to the clothes.

After Jacon I will work on making the costume so there will be more exposed skin, like the legs, hands, and arms.
