hey all,

I was wondering what some good books, that pertain to Disney, are. I have just ordered Ultimate Disney Trivia 4 and Disney Films (4th edition by Leonard Maltin). What are some other good Disney type books that are worth having?

Well I was in Borders sunday and I picked up this book, all about Mickey. I don't remember the title, but it was a big book, and had a grey cover with red type. It may have been something like "mickey Through the Years" or All About Mickey" Any way it must be new because near the end of the book they had House of mouse pictures. Any way I believe that it was about $35. Possibly a good buy, in fact I was considering picking it up. Ofcourse that all depends on if you are a mickey fan .

I like the Maltin book. Although he just touches briefly on most post-Walt films and he's congratulatory of just about everything from the Walt era, it's a really great read.

It's also proved an great resource for creating the content on this very site.

I plan to pick up the Maltin one soon (it looks great), but I was given the Ultimate Visual Guide to Disney (to big DK press one) by my girlfriend as birthday present last year. I think that's great.

It is a visiual guide so lots of big colour piccies - which is always good. And it gives a nice overview of the history of the Disney films - from shorts to features, plus it has stills from the upcoming stuff like Brother Bear and Home on the Range.

Somewhat aimed at a younger audience, I still love that book. It seems to be in the 'spirit' of Disney more than just a plain text book if that makes any sense

DK makes fantastic books, I really love their style.

If you are looking for a cheap copy of the Disney Films book by Maltin check out the discount table at your local Barnes & Noble book store, I got mine there for $4.99.

Anyone know of any Disney books that are worth money? I came across The Art of Walt Disney from Mickey Mouse to the Magic Kingdoms by Christopher Finch up for auction (believe it or not, at a Good Will store) a few years back. It had a hand-painted raised wooden Mickey Mouse on the front. The book sold for $350.00. I was disappointed to be outbid on that book. I received a copy of the same book (C 1973) for a gift a few months later. Anyone know of this particular book or any others out there?

oh -- and the Disney A to Z archives are worth the money!!!

Hey Jabroni, is the Disney A to Z Archives the same as the encyclopedia by Dave Smith? I don't have that one. I think most of the books are 'worth' the money. I was thinking more on the lines of like 'antique' or 'classic'. You know? Money is a bit tight these days!

I actually wound up with a copy of the Maltin book last night (albeit from the library I work in, so I can only keep it indefinitely ).

It is really good! I love the DK format, but the Maltin is really informative.

And now I want to go and buy more movies!!!

I have actually read Maltin's "Disney Films" book cover to cover and it is truly fascinating. I also have read the Book by Dave Smith and Steven Clark I think "Disney The First 100 Years" and it to is just awesome it talks about all things disney through the years. I just started a book By Bill Cotter "The Wonderful World of Disney Television" Which is a great source of information on all things that have anything to do with Disney television. If you are interested in this book use this link and you can by it directly from Bill Cotter for $10 http://www.billcotter.com/tvbook/ I also am reading Dave Smith's "Disney A to Z" which is also great and I also pull out Dave's trivia book when ever I have company (people obviously don't visit that often) it is a fun book. I also have all the disney board games and they are also great fun my favorite is "Disney Charades."

yes, that is what I meant. And from what I see -- that is an EXCELLENT book to get. I'm currently winning the First Printing of it on eBay for 5 bucks! . I wish I got the second printing!:(

Two books that I think are well worth it are both about the designing and behind the scenes looks at the Disney theme parks.

Walt Disney Imagineering by The Imagineers; ISBN#: 0-7868-8372-3; $30
Designing Disney's Theme Parks edited by Karal Ann Marling; ISBN#: 2-08013-639-9; $50

I didn't pay either of those prices; they're probably available for discount at most online retailers and on auction.

The "Imagineering" book has more pictures and concept art than the "Designing" book which focuses more on the architecture. Both offer excellent views on the design of the theme parks. I would recommend both.

I have had the christopher finch book (from mickey mouse to the magic kingdom) for a long time now albeit in a dutch translation
and actualy got the first edition from the maltin book for 15 euro at my uncle's store (he runs a second hand comic book shop)
but up till now i had no idea there were updates on the book
i love the book even more with the treasure link as he is also involved with that

you guys might want to ceck out, THE ILLUSION OF LIFE: DISNEY ANIMATION. It seems like a SUPER book. A little pricey, but from what I've read, it seem's totally cool, and worth it. If I hadn't spent 80 bucks this month all ready on Disney, then I would definately have picked this one up immediatly!
