Hi fellow Disney friends
Do we have any advance reviews on this?
I'm dying to find out the region code

No reviews yet as it is still a little early. Reviews typically start to appear about a week prior to the release on most sites.
The region code is confirmed to be Region 1 for the US and Canada only. I haven't heard if this will be getting an international release in May 2009, but it is inevitable that there will be one someday.

Wrong. Blu-ray don't deal with Region in numbers, mate.
The region code for the Blu-ray has not been confirmed. It will be Region A, but there's also a big chance that it will be Region ABC.

I don't think that there is a good chance it will be ABC - I know Cars was, but this seems to be the exception rather than the rule. Most Disney animated stuff is locked - new or catalogue.
Especially as the "delayed" Monsters, Inc Blu-ray supplements are steadily going through the British BBFC and Amazon.Co.Uk recently sent me an email saying the release was "bumped up" to an earlier date. Indeed, Amazon.Co.Uk list the UK Monsters, Inc Blu-ray for a July release - and there's still no sign of A Bug's Life on Amazon.Co.Uk.
I'm wondering if Disney is doing an experiment; release A Bug's Life in the US region-locked to A, and Monsters, Inc in Europe region locked to B. That way, they could, conceivably compare sales on each, and perhaps track imports?

My information came from Amazon.com, so apparently they aren't aware that Blu-Ray regions are in numbers. I think I had heard that once before, but forgot. At any rate, it looks like it will be region locked.

Both 'Pirates' movies were region free, so assuming that some catalog titles from Disney are region free, there's actually a chance that A Bug's Life will be region free. I hope it is, because it doesn't seem to be announced anywhere besides in Region A.

As far as I know, Cars is the only Disney animated Blu-ray that is region free.
The Platinums are (which seems pointless being as they more or less share the same release window worldwide) and even the new Nightmare Before Xmas was.
Of course, most of Disney's animated stuff has been "new releases", but I still see Cars as the exception, not the rule.

Let's hope it's a sign of things to come.

Well, that just shows how f**ked up the whole region encoding thing is. Nobody has a clue as to how to use it, or what its for - and I'm including Disney in that list.
Films with simultaneous releases are region encoded (such as the Platinums) or films were global rollouts are within a small release window (such as A Nightmare Before Xmas) are region locked, while films like A Bug's Life, which is totally absent from European listings are region free? For all I know, it could be months before we see a release (the fact Amazon and others list Monsters, Inc and Finding Nemo, yet no A Bug's Life makes it even more crazy and illogical).
I don't know why Studios insist on region locking anything - they saw it was rejected by the populations of every single country outside of North America, and yet they still insisted of having some form of locking on Blu-ray (a system which is even less logical than the DVD system by the way - do you really think you can split up the whole of the world, and it's complicated licencing and release windows into just three regions?)

The studios can make more money on a blu-ray in Europe and such, where the prices are generally higher. That's why it's there. Of course, one main version for the entire world would be bad, because you'd have tons of dubs and subtitles. Also, some countries don't approve of violence and such.
But still, I agree they should just make every release region free, so the dedicated people can import if they want. I'm glad the most studios (like Warner or Paramount) release their films almost always region free. It's studios like 20th Century Fox, Disney and Criterion that ruin it for me. The former two studios include the original audio a lot of the times, and that's sadly the first thing to go on the European release to make place for, again, the dubs.
But I'm really glad my favorite is region free

How reliable is that? Do we know for sure it's region free?
What have Disney's BD releases so far been, locked, right?
Region locking pisses me off so badly.

Movietyme also confirmed it, and they check every title on their site personally. So, if they say a title's region free, it is.
Out the top of my head, some catalog titles were region free (Cars and the first two Pirates movies)and probably some Touchstone films as well, but most have been region locked.

You're right, every Pixar catalog title as of now has been region free. Hopefully it will stay that way.

You beat me to it!
This must be the second most praising review I've seenh for a blu-ray release(the first being Benjamin Button-five B's across the board). I always thought, up until now, that the roundtable was the commentary enhanced with pip. I guess I was proven wrong.
It's also worth noting that the features not included for the blu-ray apparently, are the "Fishy Fact", the Pan&Scan featurette, and the supplemental audio tracks. Still reason to keep the DVD, I guess.
