I don't know if this has been started, so it can be moved to a different discussion if it needs to be.

So, in my opinion, this is probably the best thing to come out of DisneyToon Studios. It definitely fit with the period (mid-90s), and it's a fun comedy. It's sad that it's only DVD release is P&S, and it's hard to come by the Widescreen Laserdisc. With Disney re-releasing films like "The Jungle Book 2," "The Little Mermaid 2," and other straight-to-video films that don't really deserve releases at all, it makes me wonder "Why hasn't Disney given 'A Goofy Movie' a Widescreen release yet?" It kinda confuses me. Does anyone else think that "A Goofy Movie" deserves another DVD release?

"A Goofy Movie" is perhaps one of the most underrated animated films. I mean sure fans love it but it doesn't get enough credit from animation critics and such.

Its one of the best movies based on a TV series yet (although it did take many liberties with the original series).

a Widescreen release would be great, but i already really like this movie a lot. Goofy is one of my favorite disney characters and his movie is really enjoyable, i like the second one too, but the first is the best imo.

That would be great. I boycotted this one due to its poor DVD.

I remember as a kid watching the scene when the principal shouts at Goofy on the phone about Max winding up in an electric chair if Goofy didn't straighten the kid out, I thought the principal was implying that he would shock Max in an electric chair in his office if Max got in trouble at school again. I was pretty creeped out.

Anyway, I enjoy this movie and adore all the songs except 'Lester's Possum Park'. I've been holding off on buying the P&S DVD in hopes of a widescreen one in the US someday. *crosses fingers*

Yeah that would be pretty cool, I like this movie a lot, and probably like it even more if its in widescreen! I still haven't seen the second one, I hear it's good, but not as good as the original.

I like the movie, and think it's worth an improved release. I mean, C'mon Disney, it certainly doesn't cost much to take the original CAPS files, compress them, slap them on a disc with a few previews and some bonuses(including animated menus). Anyone with a computer can do that, and almost all releases these days have had it happen(from other studios, I might add). But when does a Disney rep ever look at this forum? At least WB knows there are fan-sites depending on them. Oh yeah, I went there!

Anyhow, all movies deserve to be released in their OAR, so I see no reason why "A Goofy Movie" shouldn't. It's a pretty decent movie, and even a barebones widescreen DVD would be an improvement.

Funny you should say that about Warner. The R2 dvd of A Goofy Movie is widescreen (though it's letterboxed) and was released by Warner Bros. .
Even though the animation isn't comparable to the other animated features that were released around it, I loved it since I rented it on vhs as a kid, and I still do.

This movie deserves a better DVD release (In widescreen,of course) than the Gold Collection DVD, but I highly doubt something like that will ever happen since this is one of the lesser-known Disney movies.

Yes, I think that the Goofy Movie should be released in a widescreen edition.

Disney has set August 4th as the (premature) street date for The Tigger Movie: 2-Disc 10th Anniversary Edition. While a digital copy bolsters that disc count, the DVD will include 2 new-to-DVD episodes of '80s/'90s cartoon "The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" (yeah, Disney's actually using its name!) plus extras from the original DVD like Kenny Loggins' "Your Heart Will Lead You Home" music video and a "Round My Family Tree" sing-along. List price is $29.99, but you can save money buying both this and a concurrent major Disney DVD debut we can't tell you about until next Friday.

Hmm, I wonder if this MAJOR Disney DVD debut could be the first release of the widescreen version of "A Goofy Movie" for a premature 15th Anniversary Edition of "A Goofy Movie." I wish. Haha

I was looking at the UK site for Amazon, and it seems the UK's DVD of "A Goofy Movie" has been discontinued. I wonder if we will see it quietly go into the vault here.

If I remember correctly, and I may not, the initial UK release was barebones, so this is probably just a method of porting across the US supplements to the UK.

UD's new review of the recent Mickey Mouse Clubhouse DVD has a print add inside that advertises a Goofy Movie 2-pack coming sometime in the near future. Perhaps that is why the film has seemingly gone out of print in some areas?

My concern is that recently, Disney has been putting old discs into new 2-packs, often without regard for OARs. The Homeward Bound 2-pack contains the first film in fullscreen and the sequel in widescreen. So my hope is that if this 2-pack is coming out, which we can assume would hold A Goofy Movie and An Extremely Goofy Movie, then I hope its not the exact same releases bundled together because it would be nice to get the first film in widescreen (finally!).

I also find it odd that the film is in widescreen if you rent it on iTunes in the U.S.

In response to zackisthewalrus's comments about this, I have heard that Race to Witch Mountain is scheduled for release on August 4th, so that is probably what the money saver will be with. However, there are rumors that The Hannah Montana Movie will also be released on that day, so I guess we will find out on Friday.

Well, maybe this is one of those things like Disney did with Saludos Amigos and The Three Caballeros where they'll put both movies on 1-Disc, and they'll include the Widescreen version of the first movie. I'll only buy the two-pack for that reason. I don't care much for the 2nd.

Perhaps it'll be a newly-authored single-disc with both films in widescreen. At 78 and 76 minutes, both can fit on one DVD and retain the extras from their original DVDs.

Well, having both films on one disc gives rise to compression issues. I don't want this to end up as pixelated as a Bugs' Life, or even Race to Witch Mountain/Return from Witch Mountain.

The films aren't too long. Hopefully it won't turn out too bad. 2 75 minute films is 150 minutes which is how long The Dark Knight is. That turned out fine didn't it?
