They did separate the foreground characters from the backgrounds, but since BatB is all-digital that's a rather simple step. The next step is giving it actual depth, or the sense of depth. Since hand drawn animation is 2D, that's what's taking so long. And of course this can't be seen on a small screenshot, but you'll need glasses to see it in 3D.Vermin Friends wrote:I'm actually not too impressed. If that's what they did, then I don't really see what could be taking so long to be honest. Beauty and the Beast was done partially on the computer, right? Like, the coloring and stuff? Why couldn't they just go back to the original files and blur the backgrounds out? Am I missing something?
Nonetheless, I'm pretty sure that it'll look much nicer when it's seen properly, though. Here's hoping!

I said it wasn't 3D. But they did say that the "Belle" scene was the first sequence completed. Its impossible to display a 3d image that takes advantage of those glasses anyway on a regular monitor. No they won't, they'd just make them look blurry, if you've seen Monster's Vs. Did they redraw the prince in Snowwhite?
Did they redraw Snowwhite's face in the scene where she's comforting the bird right before the hunter comes?
Did they redraw all the extremely off-model scenes of Ariel in TLM?
This is what the movies are. If you don't like them, accept it.
They could redraw the whole film, there will always be room for improvement. In every classic there are scenes that could have been done much better, but this is what the film is.
