I just curious to ask which films do you think deserve more recognition among the disney or pixar canon.

you can also do this for example, keep in mind, I do love all the classics.

Yeah I think of the incredible achievements of Bambi and then I think of The Lion King and the word "stool" does indeed come to mind.

Summer Magic, Original Family Band, So Dear to My Heart.

Summer Magic is half a great movie, the other half mystifying blandness and unrealized drama. Can't go there with you on that one -- I watched it for the first time recently with my wife, and for moments, it seems like we're seeing Walt's musical version of a Jane Austen novel, but then the drama falls apart and the movie has no real ending, it just stops.

Family Band has glorious music, and the debut of Goldie Hawn in a kick-@$$ musical climax, so I'm comfortable recommending it (though others may have a hard time with the sweetness).

So Dear to my Heart, while not widely known, has had more exposure than any of the films listed so far, save for maybe Darby.

Tron, Atlantis, and Treasure Planet. Aladdin has recognition, but needs more from today's audiences.

Pfft - that deserves to be burned. If it were possible, I'd destroy every negative of ever Disney cheapquel. Espcially those where deer sing pop songs.

Hercules and Hunchback both need recognition... from Disney

and lots of others. The only films that do get recognition by Disney are about half the DAC, Pirates, HSM, and the random live action title like Mary Poppins.

I think the package films from the 40s and early 50s deserve more recognition. Its true that they are weak in places and are pretty much filler pictures. But there's so much creativity in them and they helped paved the way towards more detailed and beautiful animation in the mid and late 50s.

The Rescuers of course. One of the best films made without Walt. It has strong main characters, beautiful songs, an impressive villian, perfectly fitting voice cast, and in general more heart and warmth than many 90's classics. Yes, the animation isn't as great as earlier and later films, but this only adds to its charm.

I just saw Teacher's Pet, and that film is quite nice. I give it a rather solid recommend to those who are open-minded about animation.

These lists are suprisingly refreshing. It is nice to see people talk about films like "The Gnome Mobile" and "Family Band'. My list of unrecognized great Disney films would include:

Each of these films are not only entertaining, but also add something special to cinema history. Oh there are a TON more I would want to add to this list, but you have to draw the line somewhere. It took me a while to shorten the list to just this. There are so many great Disney films that don't get the recognition they deserve.

I started a list, but then realized pretty much 90% of the movies and shorts and TV shows made by Walt Disney himself deserve greater recognition today. His legacy has been watered down by the work of those who followed. Hopefully Walt - - the filmmaker - - will be rediscovered in the true sense along with his film library and keen sense of story and theme.
