I just want to ask the people at ud if you think aladdin still deserves a two disc. I mean sure the 2004 sales were low, but they really didn't give it a good promotion. I mean if I were them, I would have given it a huge imax rerelease and lots of t.v airings, have had a whole year for jasmine, and a 150 million dollar marketing campaign.


What do you think about it, both the campaign, and if it deserves a great two disc rerealease.

I don't think there was anything wrong with the campaign because it wasn't different from their strategy with other Platinum Editions which sold well. Most of the Platinums didn't get TV airings. The only one that comes to my mind is Cinderella. And while I wouldn't be angry if Aladdin was replaced with a more deserving title in the Platinum line, when it is re-released, I hope it will still be a 2-disc set.

Well it was different because because they didn't shell out millions of dollars like they did for cinderella,tlm, or TLK and it didn't get an imax release , which might have made people forget aladdin even more. If anything it needed all the promotion the lion king had, although that might have switched their sales numbers meaning the lion king would have olny sold 3 million copies, while aladdin would have sold 13 million. I personally love them them both, but i know escapay wouldn't mind . Oh by the way,todays my first day on UD, ,but i've been here since like 2007.

However, I still disagree. I think Disney could have done zero promotion for The Lion King and it still would have sold well because it is possibly the most widely embraced animated film of all time.

I should make it clear that my personal preference between the two would be Aladdin. I'm not the world's biggest Lion King fan. Anyways, I know some people attribute low sales of Aladdin to America's current views of Arabic countries and customs. It always baffled my mind that Aladdin sold so poorly because it is a princess movie, even if the film isn't named after Jasmine, and A Whole New World is one of the best known Disney songs.

I'm sure out of the gate Aladdin didn't perform to the highest possible way it could, but until it was vaulted I'm sure it had legs.

Of COURSE it deserves 2 discs why not? I, pesronally, don't care about bonus features as long as the movies' sound/picture is prestine

Considering the second disc from my Platinum set isn't dissapearing anytime soon, I'm not sure what the fuss is about. However, IMO, it really is one of Disney's finest, and it would be a shame to have its legacy and quality undermined in a future release.

However, if we get a good blu ray edition with most of the DVD extras ported over, I'll be pretty content.

Does anyone know much did Sleeping Beauty and 101 Dalmatians sell? Or any other of the platinum edition DVDs.

Aladdin is only the greatest Disney movie ever... so yeah I'd say it still deserves to be a 2-disc set and part of the Platinum line.

I think the movie definately deserves a two-disc release, but I really do not think that they should be re-releasing the movies. They need to pay tribute to all the other wonderful movies they have but don't care about.

I still can't believe you guys have convinced yourselves that Aladdin is no longer a "Platinum" title for Disney and has been replaced by Alice in Wonderland. That's like The Little Mermaid being replaced by The Sword in the Stone. Believe what you want.

Most of the less successful films have actually gotten more attention than the huge ones.

In over a decade of DVD releases
Alice In Wonderland, Mulan, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, Dumbo, Robin Hood, The Aristocats, Fox And The Hound, The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh, Saludos Amigos, The Three Caballeros and others have all gotten multiple releases, some treated better than others, but they have at least gotten attention over the years.

Most of the huge, top grossing films have only been released once. So I don't think that re-releasing Aladdin would be taking any tribute away from any other titles.

I don't see why they can't just re-release all of the films in the canon in order, no stupid collection title or anything. Just The Disney Animated Classics Line. Proper restorations and presentations of each film, starting with Snow White and ending with whatever is the latest release when the line is finishing up, along with a handful of quality bonus features. They could easily release 4-6 a year, leave them in print for 1 year and then toss them back into the vault.

Aladdin is definitly not a princess movie. I'm sorry, but it isn't.

Tell that to Disney marketing who make Aladdin PVC sets in pink boxes with Jasmine prominently features or merchandise at the time of the DVD release to very very princess centric. When was the last time you saw Aladdin stuff without anyone but Jasmine at the Disney store? I agree with you and so do many others but Disney sadly doesn't get this.

Yeah, they've got this princess-stuff they have to keep pushing... Personally I don't like telling little girls they should be 'princesses' in the first place, but who am I?
